enough is enough. New graphics card and ram, yet another ati vs nvidia

If you want an unstable card, poor drivers, deafness caused by the jet engine cooler, and 100 degree burns caused by the sheer heat then go for it.

Yep, Loadsa is right.

You'd be better off with an nVidia card, they're totally hasssle free, and nothing ever goes wrong with them.

ahhhh, just did a fresh instal of vista and guess what, nvlddmkm error at the exact same time as before, hoorah for nvidia!/windows/deadspace

The reason i updated from 9600 to a 4870 was mainly due to nvidia drivers, they work great on the latest model, but if your running anything older they just dont seem to care about any bugs, or adding new bugs with the latest drivers. Even with the so called 'worse' ATI drivers my system is far far far more stable then it has ever been with my 9600.

Im not saying nvidia drivers are bad for 260/280 but for older cards they aren't getting the attention they need.

Having gone from an 8800GT to a 4870 1GB i couldn't be happier, my 8800GT just couldn't cope on Vista x64, constant crashes and "The display driver has stopped working and has recovered" errors, since moving to ATI not had a single crash, using the 8.10 cats.

I have to agree here, despite being a long term nVidia user until my recent 4870. When I moved to Vista 64 my trusty 6800GT was absolutely horrific under Vista, it knackered sleep mode, I got screen corruption on the desktop, bleu screens, you name it. That was using the latest drivers. I wouldn't hesitate getting an NV card next if it's price / performance ratio was the best option, but my nVidia / Vista 64 experience has not been good!

ok, just been checking out the gtx cards, and the one i was contemplating is only 20 pound cheaper than the ati i was thinking about. so its down to these two factors.
performance
stability

which one do i choose? just need some more reinforcement of oppinions before i get set
