Wanted to check something. I need a few parts for my car. Is it ok to phone dealership and ask them to look up parts. I may then go on and search online for these parts, hence not buy them from dealer as may get cheaper. Is this underhand or do they just accept it's part of their job, are you expected to buy the parts there and then over the phone once they've looked them up?

Also I assume we don't have access to the database of parts that they have otherwise I'd just use that?

Dealers usually have parts teams who can do you a quote on some if you need them but there is no obligation to then get them through them.

What car is it?

Look up realoem and 7zip and get the part number
Then find the part using bestpartstore, Amazon

Our local Vauxhall dealership will not give out part numbers, same with the Ford dealership here. There are several online parts catalogues that may cover your vehicle.

My local Honda dealer is the same, they will look up the part and quote the price but won't give the part number. I presume to prevent people from then buying them online less!

Not had an issue with Volvo at Stoneacre/Clayton/FRF dealers, or Toyota at Burrows, or Peugeot at Stoneacre.
