Dear Customer,

RE: IMPORTANT CHANGES TO YOUR BROADBAND SERVICE

Entanet is introducing a new portfolio of broadband packages from 30th March 2009. The purpose of this email therefore is to advise you of the forthcoming change and advise you of the appropriate new product for you to be moved to from the start of your billing period after launch. If you are happy to remain on the suggested broadband package there is nothing more you need to do.

The new packages will be available in a choice of 'Business' or 'Family' options with a choice of monthly bandwidth allowances. For full details of the package options please either contact your reseller or visit the Entanet e-Billing site https://billing.enta.net https://billing.enta.net

Under the new products we have retained key features that differentiate Entanet from other communications providers while adding new ones. These include: Differentiated 'Business' and 'Family' products Bandwidth allowances from 1GB Common features and pricing for ADSL and ADSL2+ Extra bandwidth availability through pre-pay top-ups or post-pay per GB Weekends still don't use your allowance 30-day contracts retained

According to our records the appropriate package for you to be moved to is the Family 30GB package which provides you with 30GB monthly allowance for just £16.73 (inc. VAT) per month. If you wish to choose an alternative product please visit the e-Billing website https:/billing.enta.net https://billing.enta.net by 29th March 2009, otherwise you will be moved to the package suggested above.

In the event that you use all of the monthly bandwidth allowance available with your product, you may use the e-Billing site to purchase additional bandwidth, either by pre-pay top-ups or on a post-pay per 1GB basis. Please note if you choose to use the post-pay per 1GB option you will need to set a maximum limit of spend. Pre-pay top-ups are the default option.

As highlighted above, if you are happy to move to our suggested appropriate package you do not need to do anything. You will be automatically moved over to this package from the start of your next billing period after 30th March 2009.

If you have any questions regarding Entanet's new products please contact your service provider in the first instance.

Regards

Looks like Enta is reach the bottom, time to move ISP's.

Yep, I wont be staying with them, but I knew that a while ago. My exchange is devoid of any sort of reasonable ISP.
In my area Enta have had 3x 8hour+ outages over the last 6 weeks alone. Not to mention absolute garbage download speeds during off-peak hours.

Problem for me is that I don't want to sign up to a 12 month+ contract when my exchange goes live for 21CN at the end of march.

Just got two emails from uksfn/entanet with the outlined changes and prices...

http://www.ukfsn.org/newadslproducts.html - starting March 30th. I'll be transferred over to the Family 30 package. Slightly cheaper, but I'll be losing my 300GB off-peak

Time to move yes, but where  I really don't want to get tied down to a 12 month contract? What non-llu, enta alternatives are there?

SW.

I could be missing something but ...

The chargeable period for the Family products is Monday - Friday, 08:00 to midnight. For Business products the chargeable period is Monday - Friday, 08:00 to 20:00. Bandwidth usage outside these periods (ie at night during the week and all weekend) is not counted for the purposes of billing and allowances.

Doesn't this mean that although you are losing the offpeak allowance, you can use whatever you want in this period out of hours?. However it says that the ALT will give high usage users a lower priority :/

Granted I jumped ship a while back as I was down to 2.5mb constantly with them. Went to Be and got 7mb.

Not sure why you're making such a fuss about the 300Gb off peak allowance going as it is now 'use as much as you like' whatever they mean by that, the ALT tool will hit heavy users but to be honest that is perfectly fair and IMO if you're just downloading piles of stuff overnight what does it matter whether it goes at full speed or a couple of Mbit slower?

The current 21CN teething issues are the nasty bit that is losing them customers, although every other ISP may just end up going through the same thing in a few months time when they start to make the change over.

Be/O2 is fine, although some areas have crap connections too, mine is one of them in terms of latency and reliability of my connection both have gone down hill substantially in the last couple of months.

If you want a good non-llu provider with one month contracts at the moment I think unless you're prepared to pay a bit of a premium for Zen or a decent business grade ISP your choices are fairly restricted.

Correct me if I'm wrong but one of the main reasons why they are changing the packages is because they simply can't afford to offer large bandwidth allowances like the 30/300GB package, as they are probably losing money.
I'd guess that if you download anywhere near 300GB you'd be classed as one of those high users and effectively throttled by the ALT.
I guess you'll have to wait and see what happens. You can't really expect constantly fast speeds and low pings with high bandwidth allowances on IPStream products unless you pay large amounts for it.

If all you care about is downloading as much as possible for as cheap as possible I think O2 would be the best IPStream provider for this.
If you want constantly fast and stable speeds/pings 24/7, then look at Zen or Newnet.

I was lucky and moved to Plusnet before the recent 12/18month contracts were brought in and it's perfect for me.
Constantly fast browsing and low pings 24/7 with unlimited usage (it is actually unlimited, no FUP) between 00:00 and 08:00 everyday. Now they've changed their packages though which are not as good and come with 12-18 month contracts.

Anti Loss Tool

"After noticing severe packet loss on Friday night we have introduced an anti-loss tool. The tool works by reducing the maximum rate limit when capacity hits a certain point and then allows it back up slowly if the capacity returns. [ .. ] The variation in limits are applied on a per central basis so that if only one has a problem then only it has its limits adjusted. Users will be able to switch centrals and the limit will be reset to that of the central they reconnect to.

The rate limit changes only happen once the 5 minute average usage for that central hits 96%, once this occurs then the maximum rate limit is reduced by 500kbps. [.. ] One minute later the next 5 minute average is calculated, if usage remains above 96% then a further 500kbps will taken from the maximum limit and this will continue to a minimum of 2Mbps. [..] Once usage fall below 91% then the rate limit is raised by 200kbps. If the capacity hovers between 91% and 96% then the limit will continue at its current setting."

Bit about switching Centrals doesn't apply anymore seen as they don't exist.

Hmm. I was under the impression that my isp, ukfsn, were staying with enta, hence the revised price plan?

I think I'm going to leave it for a while now anyway like you say, and see what sort of new deals show up :)

im with adsl24 & the 300gb off peak has been scrapped, i think its unlimited off peak now!!!!

Below is an extract from the T & C for new packages over at adsl24, it seems 12am-8am is now free download time!!!! i.e. no 300gb off peak limit!!! DONT PANIC MR MANNERING

Free extra allowance
As well as the standard monthly allowance, any usage between 12am and 8am weekdays and all weekend is completely free and does not count towards your normal monthly allowance. Due to the nature of this you should expect to see lower than normal speeds at busy times in some areas during this free period, however this should not affect any browsing, gaming, VoIP or other latency critical applications as the network is managed to ensure that ping times and latency is always low and packet loss is prevented.

I dont understand the table published on UKFSN's website.

its says the naming convention is based on the download amount, but 'family allowance 30' (30 gb ) is £18-95 and family allowance 3 (3 Gb? for a month??) is £15-95 ! it doesnt make sense :(

Hmm, I'm not sure what to do. I'm currently with UKFSN on the Home Max 30 package and the speeds are fine (usual 4.5mb roughly), but the changes worry me slightly...

This is my usage over the last few months
Code:
Billing Period Total Bandwidth Usage Peak Usage
15 Feb 2009 - 14 Mar 2009 19.99 GB 11.44 GB
15 Jan 2009 - 14 Feb 2009 36.16 GB 23.3 GB
15 Dec 2008 - 14 Jan 2009 28.11 GB 14.54 GB
15 Nov 2008 - 14 Dec 2008 28.74 GB 12.26 GB
15 Oct 2008 - 14 Nov 2008 34.69 GB 19.82 GB
15 Sep 2008 - 14 Oct 2008 32.18 GB 18.38 GB

I think I might need to change as the peak hours change could bring me over the 30gb limit but I don't see anywhere else to go...?

I don't want to spend the extra £10 for 60gb but I don't want to end up in a long contract with another company to find out the performance is bad. Any suggestions?

If your usage is mainly in the evening you could go with a business package which is off-peak 8pm-8am. It is more expensive at £19 for 15gb peak though but if your usage is coming after 8 then it would be fine.
That is what i am going to do.

After thinking about it I think I'm just gonna see how it goes, if I do go over the cap it's only likely to be a few gb which wouldn't be too expensive in charges. If it becomes a regular occurence then I may look for other options but hopefully it won't. Let's hope the speed during off-peak is good though...
