Hi guys, I've built a computer before but in the videos I have been watching people go into the BIOS to change things such as RAM speed? Updating? Is this only needed on certain boards?

All I've ever done is changed the boot cycle to install windows.

Now I have brought all the parts needed for a new build, how do I know what I do and don't need to change, update etc?

If you need a list of parts just ask if it helps.

Hope you can understand what I mean

I don't have the plugin to list them the easy way but:

MSI HD 7850 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards
AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gbs Basic - (MZ-7TD120BW)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gbs 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD
MSI 970A-G46 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair Builder Series CX 500w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020059-UK)
Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B)
OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

What would you do, check in the BIOS what version it has, then go on their website see if there is a new one, download it to a USB? drive and install it how?

http://www.msi.com/service/biosupdate/ that is how you update the bios if needed. other thing to check are ram timings to make sure they match up to the manufactures settings

Thanks for that. With the RAM timings as the ram is 1600 I know that part but where in the bois would it tell me what they are running at? All this should be in the motherboard book?

Cheers!
