Entry Level SLR...

OP is on a budget guys....not saying they're the be all and end all, but in regards to his budget he'd be better off with one than without. he's only going to be sticking with the kit lens for a bit I guess, so my point was the £20 would be well spent. my velbon is perfectly serviceable, holds the camera + lens fine, never had an issue with it. also got a hama one, came free with my 400d from these very forums, and is still fine. there is no way the camera would fall out of the quick release bracket on either. you do get what you pay for, but in my case, the savings I have made meant more kit to be used elsewhere. I did however, go and try the tripods first, and check their suitability, and then had the actual tripod I had played with as I knew it was a decent one....

D1000? you mean the 1000D?

great starter camera, the boots offer is very very good. works out about £250ish for the lens kit. probably one of if not thee best starter DSLR in this budget?

Yeah, thats what i meant :)

First thing to buy is a suitable camera case etc, and of course a tripod.

I have to admit the different camera "modes" or setting (P, Auto, TV etc) are a little confusing at this stage, something i'll have to keep practicing with :)
