EOS M

But the problem with the using the canon EOS M is that you are still stuck using lenses that need to cover the APS-C sensor, add to that there are relatively few small lenses for the system. Even an 18-55mm lens on the EOS-m is hardly tiny, and is a relatively poor lens.

Micro four thirds now offers a choice of several very small very good lenses. 14mm f/2.5 is only 55g, Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 is only 100g. The kit lenses are very small also. The olympus 40-150mm is a mere 190g, the canon 70-300mm is 630g.

The other thing is putting EF or EF-s lenses on the EOS-m with an adapter will limit autofocus even more. That is after area where the Nikon 1 wins out as at least the FT adapter doesn't greatly diminish AF performance. furthermore, the ef adapter costs over 100 quid and weighs as much as many of the prime lenses for m43.

The EOS M is pointless IMO if you are going to pair it up with a bunch of EF lenses.

It defeats the point of weight saving and size if you put a 24-70 on the end of it. The 650D will do more and will feel better in the hand than the EOS M.

All in all, the EOS M missed the target by a mile. There are only 2 lenses for it, if they are going to make it a success it needs a whole new range of lenses and the ability to use EF lenses needs to be a bonus rather than a necessity as currently it practically is with only 2 lenses !

Couldn't agree more with this.
I said I was fancying one of the new sony mini DSLR FF cameras as a lightgear alternative and someone suggested a EOS M, I couldn't stop laughing.
It completely defies the point of lighter gear if you have to resort to EF lenses due to a lack of lenses for the model.
The use of the EF lenses with use of a mount is handy but I would never be pairing it with the likes of the 70-200L,If I find myself needing that lens I'll simply use the DSLR.
The EF mount isnt really anything special too as you can find converter mounts for most mainstream compact semi DSLR's if you wish to use EF lenses on it anyway.

Im still considering the new sony (cant remember the model number but its full frame) as its supposed to be epic and ideal for holiday etc, or mountain hiking where you cant be arsed to bring your DSLR equipment.
