OK Im looking to get rid of my LEON FR 150 as Im not doing the mileage I use to do. Ive been looking at ep3 Type R's pre facelift due to the budget only being what I get for my LEON.
Got a few questions
firstly Ive heard that the driveshafts are a little pap. If so how bad and how can I tell its on its way out?
How different is the vTec drop off to the facelift as Ive heard switching form 2nd to 3rd it comes off slightly on the pre facelifts?
What is the most likely figures I would get for driving around town so to speak?

Obviously Ive read a little thus far but theres so many pages of stuff I just want easy answers to help me out a little and skip the pages of rubbish out.

Thanks

I drove a pre facelift and didn't like it. I believe there is as you mentioned, a slight difference with the gears.
Personally, a facelift one would be the one to go for if you can find one within budget.

Never heard this drive shaft problem before.

I get between 25 and 32 economy wise but rarely do any motorway work.

Have you driven one?

Totally different car to the Leon and you might not get on with the interior, I'm used to jap cars and didnt like the interior in the PFL

You wont see 30mpg around town, more like mid twenties

Steering rack was a very early issue on very early models, beleive they were recalled? Or fixed under warranty?

I looked at an 02 two years ago and there were already signs of rust and the seat bolsters werent looking too good either so worth keeping an eye on those

Personally I'd save the difference and get a FL if a CTR is what you really want, cant be that much more expensive these days

Drieshafts are fine, you've heard nonsense.

No difference between the pre and post, not sure where your information is coming from but it's incorrect. The only performance difference between the two is that the post has a lighter flywheel which results in a 6.6 0-62 time instead of 6.8. You'll not notice it in the real world.

25-30 around town, 30-35 out of town.

Ive never drive one but ive been in plenty. My cousin had a facelift which was really nice. I really like the face lift models but on my budget dont think its possible. For a average FL your looking at £4k for a decent preFL your looking £3.5k. Im probably looking to get about £4k for my LEON hopefully giving me a little extra cash to help pay for little upgrades. Ive had a jap car before and i loved it so the interior doesnt bother me plus it was the car i owned for the longest amount of time.

Go for a Facelift, you'll be able to get one for £4000 if you keep an eye out. Better interior, they look better and are newer. Or be a real man and buy a DC2.

What's not practical about it? Put the rear seats down I bet there's probably more room than in the back of an EP3. :) Just don't ask anyone near 6 foot to sit in the back.
