Hi guys

Had been driving for about 20 mins, then felt a judder when accellerating which got worse and worse until the car is un-drivable, it starts up but when i press the throttle theres tons of blue smoke

ive checked the oil dipstick and its empty (not giving a reading)

cant see anything obvious, i think the main bearing on the turbo has failed

if it was the diesel pump surely it wouldnt start and pull away??

how much does it cost to get a turbo re-con'd?

cheers

Could "just" be the turbo seals rather than the bearings, but either way its new turbo/turbo rebuild time.

i dont know much about cars but if it was the turbo wouldnt the problem only occur in high revs when the turbo spools up.

1) Its a diesel, it will start to spool up quite quickly.
2) It still needs to be oil tight, even if not spooling.

Defo sounds like the bearing/seals, had the same thing on my 406 a few months ago. Watch out you don't do much until it's swapped out as the oil is being dumped though to the compustion side and will clog the particle filter.

You'll need to rinse out your pipework and intercooler too.

dont run the car anymore if the turbo has gone which is sounds like it has, its not the pump as it just wouldnt start, running a diesel car with a blown turbo can lead to bent con rods and all sorts.

plus side is that a blown turbo is an easy fix and should be done with a few hours of work.

get on the mondeo.org plenty of chaps on there willing to help.

and make sure you change the oil / flush it through. If the bearings are gone there will be bits winging their way round the oil system.

If its anything like the TDCI, you'll be able to pull the pipe from the side of the turbo and see/feel if there's any damage...

I take back my comments about £900 being a bargain :D Gutted for you though...

Moral of the story must be high mileage TDs (particularly any CR cars) are a no-no unless they've already had their turbos/injectors/DMF replaced and EGR valves cleaned.

This aint a common rail car as its a TDDI. DMF has been done I think (from his previous posts) and the EGR is a half hour DIY job. Turbo should last a lot longer than this provided it's looked after so I dont think he's made a bad choice, just been unlucky

right my turbo is not blown and my car is running fine now, i did change the fuel filter yesturday i think i must have got some kind of contamination in it, the mechanic who checked my car said my turbo looked very rececent :D

i think the reason my dipstick didnt give a reading was because i broke down a big hill and it was only half full anyway

in the mean time i've blocked off my egr valve, taken off the intercooler and inlet manifold and de gunked them aswell as all the pipe work. cant really any different
