Episode 2 Performance

Hey all just started EP2 performance is superb. Around 80fps Average 1680x1050 16xAA/AF. It seems FPS can drop in some instances depending on the situation when I turn the flash light on FPS can drop to mid 30's  Anyone else noticed this?. 8800GTX BTW. Also the game does not seem to be using dual core as of yet :(

got some screenshots running in those settings? with 16xAA shoudl be no jaggie in sight i bet.

as for the torch my be volumetric light based or something. woudl you say the graphics are better than episode 1?
and does episode 1 use high quality textures which the source engine has always been know best for?

The graphics are awesome and no jaggy in sight I don't have any screenies Im afraid but take my word for it it's damn good. It seems to be the dynamic shadows that hurt performance I hope with the dual core patch we see some more perf out it.

Very pleased with the performance of this.

Even at 1920*1200 with 8xAF and all options on High, my 7800GTX copes just fine. AA is off but at such a high resolution it's not too bad.

All this is as long as you keep the torch off in large areas. If I turn the torch on (apart from in small rooms) my fps must drop to around 15.... a really noticeable drop.

Agreed. :) Even with a old single-core mobile processor and an AGP graphics card it doesn't drop below 30fps even with everything on (but 4xAA) at 1920x1200!!

also re:multi core, why do the new releases not seem to run in 64bit mode? At least I haven't seen it pop up on the title screens.

They patched this in ages ago.

Or are they running 64bit but just not saying? haven't checked tbh.

Running at 1440x900, my 2900xt q6600 averages around 100 fps with everything turned up to max. So I'm pretty pleased :)

Haven't had the time to try Ep2 yet, but Portal also runs at 80ish fps with everything whacked up.

Seems fine on my 7300gt, i have to set it to 1440x900 no HDR to get a playable frame rate, everything else on high, but the Citadell bang at the start really lowered my fps down to about 6 ^_^.

Also the light and dust affects bring my fps down by a few points.

While in the underground tunnels full of acid antlions upon getting out of a pit of water surrounded by the stalagmites and stalactites, my fps dropped to around 20-30. However throughout the rest of the game fps ranged from 65-270 (12x10, 16x aa/af, full)

max everything here, 1680x1050 8x aa, and at the begining when you get outta the train and your out doors looking over towards what was the citadel i was getting a nice 60-65 fps and in the tounels now fps feels higher but iv not checked what fps is yet, will do later if i can be botherd to go on it again lol

Anyone get any audio problems with Ep2, like crackling?
It only happens on EP2, TF2 has always been fine never has an issue there for 2 weeks playing that. I am on the latest audio drivers for Audigy 2 ZS (Driver date: 11/08/2006 / Driver Version: 5.12.4.1196)

ok, i just woke up, about to play, BUT, ive only got one gig of ram atm and my cpu wont clock past 3.0 atm (after several days of testing i think my mobo is buggerd) so do you think i will be able to play this with reasonable frames? 1600x1200 8xAA (no point going higher because i dont notice it) and 16xaf with everything max?

ags

Spec in sig, runs flawless at 1280x1024, all high, 4xMSAA, 8xAF, HDR.

Just tried it with vSync on (never normally put it on) and its so much better.
