I'd pick a player that was sold for ~ 10 + years over someone who was "a bit better" for 2 seasons at a push.

Irwin only played until 01/02 didn't he?

Anyway :)

I just quoted Irwin as an example of an outstanding player rather than being appropriate for this particular topic. Irwin, in his time, won much less than Neville and indeed played on both sides of the pitch. However Nevillies caps and honours put him at a level that *maybe* his actual performances dont merit. Thats all.

Can't really pick a second striker, it's really hard but not having Drogba.

shearer would 100% be a nineties/best ever player without any doubt, anyone who argues otherwise is deluded or part of the Shearer hate club. But conpletely agree he wouldn't be a greatest player of last decade, 2000-2003 but after that not much due to winding down his career.

VDS and Vidic is just the man utd love in.

Don't see how Bergkamp can get in ahead of Drogba, he played less and only scored 30 league goals in the noughties compared to like 3x that number from Drogba. I know he gives a lot more than just goals to the team but even so, he wasn't quite at his peak which imo was around 1997-8.

Agree that Shearer is totally out of place for a team for the noughties!

Cannot believe Roy Keane or Eric Cantona is not listed.

The latter in a team of the present decade? Considering he stopped playing in 1997?

Roy Keane might be in with a better shout but he stopped playing for Man Utd mid decade so that mitigates against him somewhat. If it was for a team of the 90s then he'd more than likely make it as would Shearer but whether they played for long enough in this decade just gone is more debateable.

Shearer's just English player bias really. There's no way that he should be in there over Henry.

The same with Gerrard over Keane or Vieira. Laughable really.

He was still increadible, getting that many goals with Newcastle was a great achievement, of course Henry would get a few more he was comparitevly younger and had much better supply. But Shearer is the greatest striker in Premier League history and deserves that accolade. Also Gerrard deserves to be in that team, does so much for Liverpool.

I would drop Van der sar for Friedel though, consistantly the better keeper with not as good defenses to protect him
