After looking at A3 Printers I purchased an Epson R1800 off ebay. Test printed it at the sellers house and the quality is good and all that, took it home, tried to print some stuff grayscale the print has a green tint to it but after changing photo black, matte black cartridges it has a blue tint. I have tried using different colour profiles (RGB, CMYK) but it doesn't seem to print grayscale properly. I am thinking it's maybe the cartridges problem (not official and it uses a mixture of brand)?

Thanks

I am printing from Photoshop and also tried Epson Creativity Suite. It prints photos alright although gray colours are still very dodgy. When you say double profiling is that when a printer uses a different profile to the program?

I just tried putting the colour management to no colour management but the photos still comes out with a greeny blue tint. Could it be one of the colour cartridges?

I have tried using the option grayscale but it still prints with a blue tint, any more ideas?
By the way Fstop11 do you use CIS? If so where do you get your inks?

try different papers.
convert the color profile to srgb
fully desaturate the image

I did use CIS. I just threw my R1800 in the bin a few weeks ago. Very unhappy with Epson printers.
Permajet I got my inks from. They have a retail office in Stockport so its very local to me.

I have tried different paper (cartridge, plain paper, glossy photo paper, matte paper) but the photos still prints out with a green/ blue cast that is even after setting the profile to srgb and desaturated the image. It is getting rather frustrating, I printed off a banner sheet with some parts having a black background and the red lines on the black background turns orangey brown and the purple lines turns into a cool blue. Any ideas?

The R1800 uses all the colour cartridges to print greyscale to acheive even tones.
The colour cast is a common problem, see - http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1003&message=29592322
If you search, you will find that you can tweak one of the colours in the driver to remove the cast. If you search for it you will find it Im sure. Ive had a quick look but cant find it. I
I have a Photography magazine at home that reviewed the R1800 and told you exactly what colours affect the outcome for black and white prints. If i can remember when I get home Ill see if I can dig it out.

Thanks for the replies guys, Shetlander that would be awesome if you can find the magazine as that would help me a lot!

Shetlander did you manage to find the magazine? :)

For CIS systems how comes there are ones that are £42 but some are £200+ what differences are there?
