Good luck mate,

But in all fairness I wouldn't get out of bed for 14k a year :p

I wouldn't get out for 34k, but then again, I live in London with my rent and bills being being equal to the GDP of Italy. :(

i guess i tried :/
dam i feel so releived i've left

sorry to hear that dude,

but working in a call center is not the best place to start.

You get all the crap calls, irate customers whom have been on hold for god knows how long an such.

I near enough always lose my rag when on the phone to call centers, just winds me up getting passed from pillar to post. Always make a point of apologising when all is done though :D so i aint that bad i guess.

Get up dust ya self off and find summat better dude.

Do not put the experience on ya cv though ;)

Sorry to hear that man :(

I got the job in the end. I work Saturdays and Sundays and I get my first ever proper wage next Tuesday! No doubt I'll only get a £1 as the rest will go towards emergency tax :(

***update 2 ***

The company keeps emailing me asking me to go back, they say i can change my mind and go back.

anyone know how to overcome using a phone fears? lol

The hardest part is the first few days of taking calls, after that its a breeze.

Don't worry about not knowing all the techy stuff, you will be able to guide the customer through the whole setup in your sleep after having done it for at least 20-30 times in one day.

If you get stuck just put the customer on hold (let them know first e.g. "just checking your account details", "systems are slow, please bear with me", "need to speak to my colleague about this", etc.

Good for them - Seem to remember it being telewest and they actually have a pretty good HR team AFAIK.

There are ways to combat fear on the phone. There training team ought to be able to help with it. Then again it's been 6 years since my first customer care role so it's been a long while.

First - Don't be afraid to tell a customer you are new. Most callers that are human will give you more time if you are obviously trying to help.
Second - Remember it is not anything about you they are annoyed with. It's not even the company most of the time! They are normally frustrated and feeling pretty useless for having to call you.
Third - When you are starting out don't try and do everything at once. Learning a new system for the first time IS confusing but after a few months you will most likely not even think about using it. Listen to the customer, ask the questions you need to then don't be afraid to use the hold button while you work out what to do!

What you feel at the moment is called Concious Incompetence - you Know that you don't know enough to help. It is frustrating as hell but perfectly natural. Don't worry the next step is Concious Competence... where you know what to do but have to actively think about it... then follows Unconcious Competence... the state of most call centre peeps when they don't have to think about the problems at all any more!

It really does always get easier! Phone work is at least some part of any job. If you have good support go back to it and try to beat it! The company has already invested a few thousand pouns in you they will persevere... they chose you for a reason and they don't normally screw up that badly!
