Er..what should this be connected to?

I had a problem with my dvd drive today:

Which i resolved by going into the case. While i was digging about i saw that a there was a cable coming out of the SATA 1 slot, but it wasn't connected to anything

The system boots, the drive works, my card reader works, there actually isn't a lot inside my case and could i heck find out where it should go

Is SATA 1 slot usually assigned to anything in particular?

So is it just an unconnected SATA cable?

Are all your HDD, DVD drives connected up properly to a SATA data cable (or IDE)?

If so, then it must be just a spare cable and can be safely removed.

Just plugged things into slots and all seems to be working. I have been in the case before and i don't recall seeing a spare lead (why would they put a lead into the build if it wasn't connected to anything?)

have you traced the lead and seen where it goes too? might find it does nothing at sll. who knows

it plugs into the SATA 1 slot on my mobo - but the other end isn't connected to anything

weird :S if nothing is without a plug could it be that someone at one point had another hard drive in there and forgot to remove the cable, i know ive done it a few times when transferring files for friends.
