I recently bought an iphone 4 so my old 3g has to be sold. Trouble is, after I ran the erase, when I turn the device back on, it still has my itunes account information. I think this may be because I am pluging it back into my comp so I can access the home screen of it. All the music, photos, contacts, everything is gone as far as I can tell. My account information though, is still there.

I have tried re setting via the phone, and did it through itunes but its still there.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Do a restore, then do the "Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Content and Data" thing.

That way it won't be activated in the box.

this happened to me as well, tho i got it back left it with the mrs who by the time i came back from work did full restore then jailbroke it again. and yep all my info was on the 3g, still not gotten round to selling it

I've been wondering the same question. I'm getting the IPhone 4 tomorrow and want to give my 3GS to my brother in law.I want to give him my phone with all my data wiped clean , but with the latest update on the phone.
I thought I would:
1. Make a back up of my 3GS on iTunes .
2. Do a restore on iTunes and do the settings>factory settings>delete thingy
3. Reconnect my 3GS to iTunes and then update the software.
4. Connect my new iPhone 4 to iTunes and install the backup
5. Send my old 3GS to my brother in law , who'll be chuffed to bits and owe me several beers !!!

Does this sound the correct way to do it ??

What I did was sync my iphone 3g to itunes and disconnect then connected and synced my iphone 4 and everything was there as if by magic. I thne manually deleted my email and itunes acc details form the iphone 3g and went into the settings and erased the phone which resets it, keeping the firmware update. That way when the next person powers it on itll ask to connect to itunes to activiate.

I am selling my iPhone 3GS, to erase content etc I've only done the following: settings>general>reset>erase all contents & settings.

Is the above ok? Will it erase itune account details? Don't have option of plugging it into my pc as it's 100miles away (long story)...

I did this a few months ago on my iPod touch when i'd used the spirit jailbreak.

After a reboot it failed to properly boot up and sat on the apple logo screen

took me a few hours to coax the thing into Recovery mode, DFU mode was impossible to do.

I can confirm the above with my iPhone 3G. Managed to get it into Recovery mode easily enough but it had a right mare with the restore process in iTunes. Had to check every USB port on my computer and by luck it worked with one of them!

Where's the best place to sell my iphone 3g? Having no interest on the 'bay for some reason. Are those recycling things worth it and can anyone recommend a top payer?

no where will get you more money than the bay, unless you list it wrong or put a stupid reserve on it...

why would a recycling place give you more money than you could sell for on ebay? if that were the case why would they not jsut buy them off the bay direct?

Yes. Don't forget to remove the SIM before you wipe the 3GS though.#

(Unless you want him to have your SIM / number)
