Hey, other thread got a bit long and off track.

I've put my Q6600 core up to 356Mhz. Gives me a speed of 3.2Ghz.

I left everything else on Auto.

When I run Prime95 it's giving me this error:

"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4"

What should I do? I guess it's not enough voltage?

Also, what test should I be running on Prime? Small FFTs? In-place large FFTs? or Blend?

Thanks

S

When i run Orthos (based off Prime95) i run Small FFT's.
How long did you run for before that error appeared?

Also what volts are you currently running at?

about 5 seconds then the error appeared on core 0.

Small FFT's seem like they stress more so got that.

It's at stock voltage.. I think it's 1.325.

What's a safe amount to add?

Thanks

Take vcore, DRAM Voltage and FSB Voltage off auto.

Put vcore to 1.45v and FSB Voltage to 1.5v.

Set RAM to its rated speed (using memory dividers by unlinking), timings and voltages (usually between 1.8v-2.3v depending on RAM). Run Prime95 and choose the blend setting. If it is stable then reduce the voltages down 1 notch and run prime95 each time until its no longer stable or doesn't boot, bsod's, etc. Move it back up 1 or 2 notches and re-run prime95.

It should now be stable within safe voltages.

Ok, can do that. I was playing with the voltage, and it was bluescreening after few seconds of windows booting, upped the voltage to 1.4 and it booted, then tried prime and it'd bluescreen after few seconds, upped voltage to 1.5 and it bluescreened after a bit longer, now I'm on 1.525 and it's running prime fine.

CPU-z says core voltage is 1.304 V though...

Temps are:

Core 0: 67-70
Core 1: 67-70
Core 2: 64-67
Core 3: 64-67

Under 100% load for 10 5 mins.

Thing I'm most concerned about is RAM.

States it's DRAM Freq is 427.2 - It's 1333 ram.

Sorry if it's not the right info I'm giving, I've read loads but never OC'd before. I can post pre cpu-z info, and post cpu-z info?

Here's Prime:

What can I do?

Look for Loadline Calibration and disable the spread spectrums, cant remember exactly what they're called. That should allow the CPU to run at a lower vcore. 1.45 should be enough. You need to make sure the RAM is unlinked and then manually enter your RAM speed and timings and then put the voltage to the advertised voltage for your RAM.

Also use coretemp to monitor the temps while running prime95.

I'm stable now at 1.525 at 3.2Ghz.

Is that a bit high? Temps are 70 under 100% load for 1hour.

Idle about 40-45.

1.5v might be a tad too high. I've never had to give my q6600 that much to get it stable at 3.2. What stepping is your CPU, look in CPU-Z, it should tell you?
Can't you get stable below 1.5v? What cooling are you using?

I really don't think you would need as much as 1.5V+ on the vcore for stablising the overclock at as low as 3.2GHz. May be try 1.4V and work your way down, or stay at current voltage and see how far you can push the clock speed up?

What motherboard are you using by the way?

My Ram:
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz XMS3 Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.6V

My Processor:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair)

With Cooler:
Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 Processor Cooler

Motherboard:
ASUS P5KC AiLifestyle Series iP35 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

It's strange as CPU-Z states my Core Voltage as 1.432V. Yet my bios has 1.525.

Stepping is: B. Revision G0.

Using my screenshots above, anything you can see that looks strange or can be improved. Thanks

Can get a picture of BIOS up here too if it helps?

You have a P35, you should be able to push that CPU a bit further on those volts with that motherboard mate. It should be able to hit 3.4-3.6.

Those volts are too high, keep it at 1.45. If it's not stable, knock up the NB Voltage and keep your RAM unlinked and at its stock speed.

How do i unlink the RAM? What setting am I looking for in BIOS?

I just got a blue screen.. running at 1.5v 3.2ghz. After 24 hours uptime, 3 hours gaming.

So guessing I need to unlink the ram or something. cause people say 1.5v is too much for 3.2 on a G0.

Any suggestions ?

S

Thanks, but as I'm using DDR3 RAM at 1333. Not sure that thread can really help me with timings etc.

I'm looking for a way to unlink the RAM? As I think it might be causing the bluescreens..

Any rough keywords/settings I should be looking for? It says something about a FSB Northbridge link on Auto. Touch that?

Thanks, S

It's strange as CPU-Z states my Core Voltage as 1.432V. Yet my bios has 1.525.

thats called vDrop (not to be confused with vDroop- difference from cpu-z idle -->cpu-z load!), its normal, although yours is slightly above average (AFAIK)

please can you post a coretemp sceenie as well (with CPU under reasonable load- must be 9x multi!), as this will tell us your VID (which is a good indicator of OC potential, although not by any means absolute)
