Error msg and not enough psu cables

Hi I have just rebuilt a dell machine with a new Case + Psu (Came with it), CPU and motherboard.

Ive put it all together today along with the existing Ram,hardrive, G/C, dvd drives e.t.c. and everythings fine, it turns on, then after the windows xp splash screen it goes into the blue screen of death saying:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damange to your computer"

"Tech info: 0x0000007B (0xF894D524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"

Also the PSU only has 4 molex connectors, where as i need 8,

1Harddrive (Via converter), 2DVD drives, 1Front light, 2Fans, 2G/c via a pce-i converter.

Is there any way around this?
 
Since it's Dell I'm guessing it's not the machine in your sig.

Firstly if you're changed the motherboard and CPU you're probably going to have to reinstall windows. If you've just tryed to boot the hard drive with the old installation on it it won't work.

If you want to confirm this is the problem try a Linux Live disk and see if that runs ok.

Other wise it might be that the PSU isn't powerful enough (how many watt is the PSU and what spec is the PC) of something isn't connected right.
 
ok the psu is what came with this case "1 x Casecom KL-188 Black ATX Midi Tower Case with 350W PSU"

The spec of the machine is Core2Duo e6300 + retail heatsink, asrock mirco atx mobo, 512mb of some ram that came with the dell, nvidia 6800, 2 dvd drives e.t.c

So i need to format the hard drive with a fresh install because of the hardware change? if this is the case i guess that is all that is wrong?
 
Yeah you'll need to format and reinstall windows if you changed all your motherboard etc... as you'll still have your old motherboard drivers etc... on, no wonder windows threw a wobbler. :)
 
ok thats sorted, erm what about the lack of connectors from the psu, i need 8 ^^, also the psu dosent have a pci-e connecter for the G/C but i have a converter, which plugs into the g/c then splits into two, do i need to use two of the psu molex's to power it?

Surely there is some sort of cable that will plug into one and branch into like 5, like a multi tab extension lead type thing?
 
If your old OS license was an OEM license (I'm assuming it is because it came with the Dell) then you will have to purchase a new license because you're not allowed to change the motherboard (The 'PC' as defined by Microsoft) and still use the same license as Microsoft deem a new motherboard as a new PC.

With regards to the PSU, basically you can't do it. Because it came with a case it's a load of generic rubbish and is most probably underpowered (IIRC a friend had a casecom PSU a while ago and it had something like 14A on the 12V rail) as it is, without you splitting it's power channels into lots more. Buy a decent PSU :)

Wronnngg....

i also changed my mobo from my dell and kept cpu - hard drive's - etc.
my dell 3100 oem went straight in :)

Illegally I think you'll find ;) Just because it activates doesn't mean it's legal.

pfffft he has paid for his pc to have windows, he isnt using the same copy twice, he is only going to have the copy on one pc, especially as he will be using the same hdd, therfore he wouldnt be prostecuted as he has enough proof to show that he isnt using it twice, plus, do you honestly think he is going to get caught

No I don't, doesn't make it any more legal though.

No he hasn't, he has paid for a license his old PC- remeber, new motherboard = new PC ;) As for the bit about he is only using the license on one PC at a time- that only applies to retail licenses which allow you to move it about however with an OEM license, when the motherboard goes so does the license.
 
ok guys keep on topic, im not really bothered about the windows licence, if it works it works, if it dosent it dosent.

I was wondering if i should get the psu out of the dell case and put it in, instead of the psu that came with the new case? which do you think would be better in terms of build quality and power?
 
I have ordered some Molex splitters, so ill just split a couple and plug more in an see if it can cope with the extra load, tbh its only a couple of small case fans and some light on the front, cant imagine they are that power hungry
 
Ok all done, everything works fine.

Only question i have now is, when i start up, the normal Windows Xp login screen dosent appear, with the pictures e.t.c, the old style login rather like windows 2000 appears, where you have to type a name and a password e.t.c.

Any ideas why the interface is appearing like this? Im sure there is some simple explanation.
