Error playing CSS on new built system

Problem;

After playing css for around 10-30 minutes I get the error message

"hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I have updated BIOS, AUDIO drivers, chipset drivers, GFX drivers and all other driver included on the CD supplied with my motherboard

When I loaded steam for the first time it informed me that my gfx drivers were out of date - therefore I just downloaded the most recent ones from ATI for my card. Im not sure whether to role back to my original gfx drivers to see if that could be the problem?

download newer drivers from the manufacturers websites, what chipset does your motherboard use? (get them from the chipset maker, not the motherboard maker, usually more up to date)

which windows are you using?

Normally drivers, had the same problem myself on my last new build.
