So last week I decided to format my comp and backed up all my mp3's onto DVD. The Verbatim DVD+RWs that I was using had been used before and so I just wrote the files over the top using nero 6. Now, when I am trying to copy the files back to my comp after formatting it will get so far then freeze givng me and error about a "cyclic redundancy check". The data is definately all on the DVDs and I can see it fine, its just when I have to copy that I get problems. Is there any way around this, or am I screwed? I would quite like to sort it as I think there is about 7000 tracks I will be missing if I can't copy them back over. Took me about 3 and a half years to build up this collection. Also, I used some different, brand new DVD+Rs for some of the music and they have copied back without any problems.

So, any ideas?

A few years ago i had an external CD-RW and whenever i copied files to a disk i couldnt read them back with the same drive, it worked fine for everything else but just couldnt read files it had written, have you tried using a different dvd drive? this may solve the problem

tried that, doesn't appear to be working. it just fails after a couple of minutes

Sounds like they didn't burn correctly, or got damaged by the burner or something.

Have you used nero to check the health of the disks? Did you verify the burn after backing up the mp3 files?

never verified them. hardly ever burn things tbh so duno how to do that, same thing with health check didn't know you could do that. so i am pretty much screwed then?

I know it's too late for you but you should always verify stuff that you consider important.

The fact that you can see the files listed just mean the FAT table is readable, what you need to do is copy the files over in chunks so that you can establish what copies and what doesn't, this way you'll get all the readable data of the disks and then think about what to do with the stuff you can't read.
