ESATA External drive not working :(

Where would it get ACHI drivers?

I have installed the chipset driver but I don't know if it has installed ACHI.

I am in school now but I will look at that forum in more detail.

Right, to the best of my knowledge (and I am by no means a technical whiz):

AHCI refers to a setting in your BIOS. Some BIOS updates address AHCI/Sata issues.

The chipset drivers will not contain the AHCI drivers (or even the SATA controller driver) AFAIK.

The SATA controller driver is specific to your motherboard and needs to be installed in Windows.

I have looked for sata drivers and ACHI drivers but I cannot find anywhere.
I have done the regedit etc like people said but still no working. I think the drivers will fix it.

Just downloaded the manual for your board and it appears that the AMD 700 series chipset provides the Esata port so you need to download the AMD Chipset Driver V1.3.0.49 under the Chipset tab.

In your main bios screen there is a tab labelled E-Sata. Plug your E-sata drive in and switch it on. Boot up and go into the bios. Is the drive being detected in that tab. If not click on the tab and make sure it's not disabled. If it is enable it, save the bios (F10) and reboot. It should be accessable now.

If it still does'nt work then it may be a good idea to update to the latest bios. Download it to a usb stick, reboot the pc, either hit Alt + F2 at startup or just go into the bios and run EZ-Flash 2 to update. Under no circumstances do it in Windows!!

I have installed it but when I installed it, it loaded up asking for graphics settings.

It is recognised by the bios. So no problem there.

And I have updated the bios but it was through windows : / using the asus update program.
I am going to do it again through the bios though. Do I just download the latest one yeh?

Have updated the BIOS now,
Changed the SATA thing to ACHI and i still get a black screen saying:
BOOTMGR is missing

Anyone else help?

Earlier on i did leave my SATA as SATA and left the external plugged in and it was accessible but i had to do a restart to install a game and when i rebooted it was no longer there :(

Did you try just running the 'fix it for me microsoft' I posted? I did it manually like you myself and didn't have any issues, but the fix in my link might have extra tricks up its sleeves.

Keep checking which drive you are booting from. Anytime I change modes like this my motherboard tries to boot from a usb stick

Use the boot manager or check priority manually

Well i have decided to go back and tackle this problem again,

I have installed all the ACHI drivers from Ati/Asus, Set my BIOS to ACHI mode. Set the right boot drive.
When i plug in my eSata drive it boots as normal but freezes on the windows logo and it stays there glowing until i reboot and unplug the eSata and it works fine.

I have tried this on my toshiba laptop and it works perfectly.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
