I'm looking to back up my volumes via an esata device but i have a concern.

Obviously ESATA runs off a controller which can set the host to either enhanced IDE, RAID or AHCI.

I'm looking to back up some data then make a fresh install on a new motherboard.

Firstly, will there be any issues transferring to a volume via esata between two different chipsets?

Secondly, Will I need to make sure when the transfer is made, do i need to make sure the controller settings are the same? For example, if I connect the device to contoller set to AHCI, do i need to make sure when i connect it to a controller on a new motherboard, that has to be set to AHCI as well, or is it plug and play like with USB?

Think of eSATA as you would have SATA - are there normally issues with writing to an HDD on one motherboard and reading it on another? No. Does it matter if you're writing to an HDD in AHCI mode and then reading from it using IDE, or vice versa? No. :)
