Ok guys, whats your most indispensable kitchenware, stuff you use everyday or only whip out once in a while thats properly useful!

Please don't turn this into a knife fight - everyone agrees a good knife is a must, but brand preference is personal!

Personally mine are:

Microplane (Fine & extra corse) :

By far the best grater, zester & garlic press alternative, so easy to use and clean plus gets far more flavour out of garlic than any other method

Silicone spatulas / spoons -

I'm sure people know this but these things are amazing, non stick, heat resistant, non scratch, wonderful :)

Le Creuset Oven Mitt

I know their pots are controversial, but their oven mitt is by far the best i've used, hold onto a 220C oven dish for 5 min, no problem :)

Meat thermometer -

Again I use this all the time, I love not second guessing how cooked something is, especially on the BBQ!

oh, and coffee machine and grinder, but this isn't the place for that...

Decent quality tongs -

Probably my most used kitchen tool.

Stay in thermometer -

This one is a life saver, just set the appropriate temperature your meat should be then chuck it in the oven with the sensor still in the meat. Alarm goes off when it's done, hassle free perfect meat! :D

I've heard the plastic microplane graters aren't that well made, how do you find yours?

Although I tend to finely dice with a knife these days if I'm in a hurry this has to be the best garlic press I've owned:

As posted on another thread just now, for tongs these are the best I've come across, most particularly because the release end is very tough and you can be a bit rougher than with some of those more delicate tongs:

Plenty more but leave it at that for now.

Can't believe how no one purees garlic with a knife.

Essential for a kitchen, a sense of humour, I tend to act like I'm making a cooking show and talk to various objects. Just incase I go on come dine with me one day.

My list had no garlic press in it. Not that I normally purée it either. Crush. With back of knife, pull skin of, chop in. Two directions and in pan. Faster than even getting a press out the draw.
Yeah but then it depends what you're making, I prefer to puree for a lot of things because you can fry it off in 30 seconds and extract more from it.

We have one of those, I think they are just called "Grater plates" They do work well for garlic and ginger, get it a bit wet for lubrication then rub away.

Edit: Ooh err missus etc
