What software can you *not* live without? Software that has made using your mac so much easier, increasing workflow or productivity. Speeding things up, or just making your mac use that much more enjoyable.

I currently use

Quicksilver (first thing I grabbed after getting a Mac).
Skitch
Growl

I've just started using Dropbox (not *much* need for it personally though I don't think).

Also, just grabbed Typinator from MacHeist, that could be quite handy I think.

Any others? It can be pay or free :)

I pity-the-internaut who doesn't use RSS, and NetNewsWire is the best reader. So I'd class that as must-have!

Another vote for NetNewsWire here (has a nice little iPhone app as a companion too)
Skitch
Probably a few more too (but at work so I can't think recall right now)

*must get round to looking at Growl*

TextMate. Awesome program if like myself you are constantly flicking between different program languages, uses context highlighting and will open pretty much any text associated file with ease. Highly recommended, the only that put me off is that it is a paid for application but IMO worth every penny.

Stuff on just Mac that is awesome:

iPhoto
Skitch
iMovie
Handbrake (yes it's now multiplatform, but a certain feature doesn't work on Windows)
iStumbler
Time Machine

Things that make it generally better:

Perian
iWork
Coconut Battery
Dropbox
Pixelmator

Then some utility which informs you of which applications are receiving data would surely be of more worth to you, oh wait yeah activity monitor does that and is included in Mac OS.

To me it seems the whole point of Little Snitch is to allow people to run pirated software, what else could be inferred as software 'snitching'? It's ironic that itself being shareware, people use it to block itself from 'snitching' on itself.

Why? You already know what's allowed to accept incoming connections due to the built in firewall, if it's in one of the stricter modes.

I don't really care which is "worth more to me" when I can have both.

It's good to know when an app is dialing out / calling home, so I'd give a thumbs up to Little Snitch.

Ooh I forgot about LittleSnitch, I do already use that
I also use Quicksilver, Flip4Mac, (I think I uninstalled Perian as I use VLC, don't seem to need it).
Naturally use Firefox (but its really annoying me for the past couple of builds, with random CPU spikes / temp lockups)
I also use TextMate too :)

To look up

Leech, SizzlingKeys, VisualHub, Evernote, Pixelmator

I did use xSlimmer on my last install on my previous mac, but didn't use it properly.
Does it really make much of a difference?
I want some good software to speed things up a little...I'm a speed freak, so minor glitchey delays in something really nark me :p
I use Onyx for the occasional tweaky maintenance.
Oh and I also use 1Password...Everyone should have that! :D

Pixelmator is cool.. it was in a bit of a state when it launched, but they've really been chugging away at refining it ever since.

Feek, i see you have used superduper to copy your disk when upgrading, did you backup your apple drive to the new drive you wanted to install and then change the drive with the new backup drive that you have just made ?

would this be easier than doing a DVD install of OSX ?

Tony

Yes, exactly that. I did a backup from the existing drive to the new one with SuperDuper! then swapped the drives over and that was it.

superduper is immense for installs on a new HDD, it takes superduper a few hours to do a full copy of your disk so its not necessarily faster although once the process i started you just leave it so the time of user interaction is about 5 mins to get it started.
