Ok, I'm excited!

I'm gonna buy a PS3 tomorrow, prob get a package deal, the 80gb I guess?

What essentials shall i get or will I need e.g. 2nd controller, HDMI cable, blah blah blah?

Game wise, I'm thinking.....Pro Evo, GTA4. I'd also like a driving game.

Main reason for the purchase is for the blu-ray player so whats an essential, breathtaking film to get in your opinion?

You'll be needing an HDMI cable as it only comes with composite in the box and maybe the Blu-ray remote if that takes your fancy. For a driving game it depends what you fancy - Gran Turismo 5 Prologue or GRiD depending on whether you want a more simulator or arcadey experience? GRiD is likely to last you longer but then GT5P can probably be had for peanuts, why not get both ;)

If you get a second pad make it a DS3, and I'd highly recommend an HDMI cable but other than that just buy a ton of games :)

Get GT5 Prologue/Burnout if you like racers, CoD4 if you're even remotely into FPS, and Resistance is a great coop game if you're after something to play with a mate.

don't get Pro Evo wait for Pro Evo 9 or even Fifa 09

Enjoy your Ps3

Get a headset also, decent blootooth (which i'm sure someone will mention later) or a USB one (Logitech Vantage is very good) which i own and can verify as being spot on

GioTeck Pro triggers for Ps3 to extend the L2& R2 triggers are handy also
video of them here - soory about the music...

I would pick up Uncharted and Motorstorm as they are both Platinum games now so can be had for less than £20 each (motorstorm was £10 preowned last time I checked) I stuck it on the other day and forgot how much fun it was.

COD4 is a definate buy IMO also - other than that I would just go onto the PSN store and download a **** load of demo's to see what else takes your fancy.

Film wise I would say that anything animated really shows off HD very well, i.e. Ice Age 2 etc. Depends what your into though but I would recommend 300, Sunshine and Beowulf as they all look excellent in HD imo.

[EDIT] I nearly forgot - 'Planet Earth' is breathtaking in HD ;)

Yep, Planet earth is still my favourite HD Show, There are Low Res shots thrown in too, But when you see the HD shots, It's awe-inspiring. well, For something on the TV anyways :p

Cool, cheers guys.

I'm a pc gamer so things like COD4 and that will be played on there. The games for the PS3 will be things for when the lads are round. I played Grid on the pc, maybe get that again for PS3 cus i want a driving game, I prefer race sims but never liked the Gran Turismo's.

Good idea for the demos Joebob!

lads games? try the guitar hero games, sports stuff... you could probs pick up virtua tennis/fifa for cheap. soul calibur 4 is good you like beat em ups :)

As mentioned Drakes Fortune is amazing, I would also recommend MGS4. I wouldnt buy a footie game yet, new FIFA and PES demos will be up on the store soon, make your choices after you have played them.

Right, got a bundle.

£349 80gb PS3 with Gran Turismo, Fifa 08 & GTA4 and extra Dual Shock Wireless Controller @ £15.

Blu-Rays I got Terminator 2, Batman Begins and never thought I'd say this.....Transformers, purley to show off the pictures.

:D

Right, off to plug it in.

I think that was usurped by Lost Land of the Jaguar. Did you see that one in HD?

I wouldn't get Pro Evo or GTA4, and I'm sure many will agree. It's the worst Pro Evo ever, even Fifa is better. GTA4's gameplay is also crap, repetitive and not as funny.

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen !!!

Best picture and sound ive heard in a bluray so far

Dark City

Very good but imo bluray benefits panoramas more rather than dark dark scenes.

Any pixar film will give you perfect picture quality and sound.

iRobot is probably the best live action blu ray i've seen. Hoping the dark knight and wall-e will be of a similar standard.

The PS3 doesn't have any titles I'm afraid.

Sorry, that's a total lie, but I miss the days when it used to be the lynchpin of every anti-PS3 argument.
Sit down son, I'll tell you about the old days and my time served in the great fanboy wars...

;)
