In recent months I have taken on doing the weekly shop for various reasons. And I'm getting a bit fed up of getting home to find the shopping has strewn itself across the boot because there's nothing holding the bags in place.

So I wonder - is there a terribly clever solution out there which I am not aware of?

What do others use to hold relatively tall bags in place, and how well does it work?

I could try bungee straps attached to the cargo hooks. But they're floor level, so not going to be great for stopping stuff tipping over. And likely hold it all too tightly.

I know, were I speccing a car brand new, that there exist metal adjustable frameworks which can be moved around to enclose a smaller space in the boot. But I don't think they can be retrofitted. And they're specific to a car, so probably daftly expensive too. But is there a generic equivalent that's any good? My google-fu has failed so far to find anything.

I used to use the collapsible plastic crates in the back of my estate to keep things together, or when I had the dog guard fitted I also had a divider that fixed into different positions. Obviously not a cheap solution if you don't need it though. If your car has an option of the movable OEM partitions you should be able to retrofit, albeit it might be lol£ if you can't find the parts used

Cheers people, some interesting ideas. Answers in order:

I did a quick search for whether the OEM partitions were available, buit didn't find them. Wasn't really sure what to search for though, to be honest. I'm reasonably sure they exist (S204 C63).

How dare you suggest it's my own fault for driving too fast with a bag full of eggs in the boot! Outrageous! :D

Those bags are an interesting idea, but too small - we're talking large bag-for-life replacements would be needed. I might search further on the idea though.

And yes - you're quite right the bags would likely be steadier in a footwell or on a seat. Feels a bit daft when there's a cavernous boot sitting empty though!

I see this on Mercedes own site. Says it doesn't need the factory fit boot floor guide things. So not sure how it works. Maybe those feet slot into the sides of the spare wheel cover? It's not exactly clear!

Can't find it for sale anywhere anyway.

My Saab 9-5 has a lug rack system where you attach hooks which you then can add a cargo net to keep everything together.

I barely bother though unless it is something I absolutely do not want to move.

or - just get some heavy duty veg/fruit packing boxes from supermarket and keep them in the boot to constrain any shopping - good for moving house too.

I just went really simple for mine. Cheap storage box from the likes of Wilkos etc. Add a bit of Velcro to the bottom (just the hooks bit) then place in the boot. Box holds what tI needed it to, Velcro holds box in place. Easily removable when needed.

I use the old versions of the Stay Hold products to keep stuff in place - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363282140241

Irritatingly, it seems these will not work for me. While the boot floor of the C63 is fabric, it's a very short fibre, and the velcro isn't sticking to it.

I still have a feeling that with the base shoved under the last bag, it will add enough sturdiness to keep them upright as long as I'm not driving like a loony, so all is not yet lost. And it only cost me £9 anyway.

I nab an empty box from the fruit & veg area, & have one of those black non slip mat things on the boot floor.
You can the use the box filled with shopping to 'wedge' remainder of bags to one side. Box also protects soft produce.

Yes, just grab some cardboard boxes at the supermarket or take some with you. I decant from trolley to boxes, no bags used. If I acquire too many boxes through stuff arriving in the post I throw a few in the back of the estate car.

For dog meat runs to the butcher I take three plastic crates that I can wash the blood out of later.

The inside of my cars are cess pits anyway, so I don't worry too much what occurs <lol>

Could you buy some suitable hooks, or even retrofit these? (you'd need to drill/cut into the plastic part, assuming your c63 is like this: Mercedes-AMG C 63 Estate )

I do have those hooks in the boot. They're not so useful. Small, don't feel very strong, not adjustable. So you could hang a small bag from them. But a large bag which is taller than them, they do nothing.
