Estate for £3K

Fox, not everybody wants a Mondeo. It doesn't matter if they've got £3k to spend or 30, they may want alternatives

Thats fine, so get a Mazda6, or a Toyota something or other, or a Passat or something.

The OP hasn't said he wants some sort of premium fast 200bhp car. OcUK has just decided thats what he needs, because most people on here are unable to seperate what they would do with what really suits the OP.

By your own words the Saab is a better built, better performing, better speced car for a similar outlay. I think you'd be mad not to give them a look just because from new they were marketed at a different audience to the "safe" option.

I was using that to explain why they cost more to own.

He wants a CHEAP FAMILY CAR. He wants to drive his wife and kids to camping holidays and go to Morrisons.

He isnt after what we all want in a car.

I would personally buy a Saab 9-5 over a Mondeo for £3k if I had the choice between the two, but I, and you, are different.

He's obviously not minted enough to throw loads of cash at running a semi interesting car, hence his budget of only £3k for a family car. So we must suggest normal, everyday sensible stuff to fit his normal, everyday, sensible requirements.

Why not something like a Saab? Due to them being unloved you get more car for your money than you do with most of the competition, I don't understand how this is a bad thing?

To be fair the OP hasn't really said what he wants, other than an estate that costs £3000. Given the fact that he was interested in a A4, a slightly older car from a "premium" brand (I'm using that term loosely) might appeal more than out and out penny pinching.

They cost more to run.

It's a relatively high performance (or in your terms 'monumentally slow') turbocharged engine. It will use more fuel, it will wear through tyres quicker and so on and so forth.

No one is suggesting that it is not going to be more expensive to run than the Mondeo. What the pro saab people are questioning is if the extra money spent on running costs makes the Saab worth it given the fact that they are going to get a better car for the money.

Being different is rarely the cheapest option :).

I obviously just imagined that I saw comments like "Saabs and Mondeos are no worse than each other to run" then, my bad.

I'm afraid that you're all barking up the wrong tree with your suggestions.

The obvious choice is to get one of these. You can get 2 people in the front, and in the back, a big black dude with lots of jewellery, a crazy fool and a face. And with loads of space for equipment such as camping gear (or machine guns)

Lol :D
Not a fan of those dark filters on the vid mind :(

Naaaah. You want a VX Omega. Massively spacious, comfy, and correct-wheel-drive, and cheap as chips. Awesome tow car if that floats your boat. Plenty of engine and trim options up to the 3.0/3.2 Elite with heated cow seats and all the toys. I've got an old 3.0 Elite saloon and I love it - so much car for the money. Maybe for the OP a 2.2 4cyl or 2.5/2.6 V6, or 2.2 diesel would be more sensible though.

Got in an omega taxi last night. Although it had lots of space and all the toys it was very very dated for an 02 car.

Not bad for a few £100 though!

A facelift Omegas with a decent spec is going to cost you a bit more than a few hundred quid. Still, a lot of car for the money :).
