ESTool and data loss?

Looking to run ESTool on a Samsung HDD and despite the disclaimer that comes up about risk of data loss/back up data etc, has anyone ran ESTool on their Samsung HDD (with existing data) and can confirm whether they found it actually did or did not cause risk of data loss?
Have got a drive full of PVR recordings and while it would be no great loss, I don't have a spare HDD to copy 500-600GBs. Thanks.

It depends what your doing with ESTool.

I have used ESTool to change acoustic settings with no data loss. Obviously anything relating to data such as a low level format, your going to loose data.

Thanks. Sorry, I should have said Diagnostics. It was hanging Windows the other day so decided to see if ESTool detects any errors. After a bit of googling, a few threads report the Samsung 1TB F3 can get unresponsive so just want to make sure its not a one off unrelated problem with the drive.
