evening all bit stuck realy. i had an old laptop sitting round working very very slowly on vista 32 bit os, so after speaking to a couple of people decided to run kill disk and zero the drive to start a fresh as it were, before doing so i backed up all my drivers to a cd using driver genius or something along those lines anyway backed up killed disk and rebooted with an xp os disk i had.i don't have a vista disk, so once set up i droped the driver backup disk in but now get the message (system information cannot open this NFO file. it might be corrupted or an unrecognised version.) could this be because ive come from vista to xp or do you think im not opening them correctly i basically run the cd let it open in file view then select the driver and get the error. sorry for the essay but im not worried about the rest atm i just wana get it back online then ill download the rest from there. i dont mind just trying to get the ethernet driver from the net using my desktop but i cant seem to find it any were. just incase anyone can help its a advent kc550p thanks in advance :confused:

Download this
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/windows/xp/x86/lan/11.09

Use IMGBurn to create an image of the unzipped file.

Install virtualclonedrive and mount that image in your XP install.

Now use device manager to scan CD for drivers

Ok thanks for that info bud when you sdo yo say mount the image into you xp installdo you mean juat save the file onto the laptop also am i installing vittualclonedrive onto my desktop or the troublesome laptop sorry for the dumb q's thanks for the help though:)

1) Install virtualclonedrive on the laptop
2) Mount the image on the laptop using virtualclonedrive

Did you find the device ID using the method in my previous post?

I'm feeling kind, I've made the ISO for you.

Download this http://bleddyn.co.uk/drivers/xp_lan.iso and virtualclonedrive http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

Put them on a usb stick or something, then copy to the desktop of your new XP install.

Install virtualclonedrive

Then find that virtual drive in my computer, right click it and choose 'mount' point it at the file that you downloaded from my site.

Now you're ready to do the Device Manager, Update Driver, scan from CD

wow cheers buddy! just to let you all no that i tried downloading and installing vcd and the lan drivers before the post above was read and got very stressed and confused when nothing seemed to work. ended up finding a 3mobile usb dongle plugged it in managed to get it on line and update the wirless lan driver now shes online with wireless!! should i still go through the process in the post above? thanks very much for your time fellas sory if ive wasted any of it :(

Might as well install it to get the LAN driver (it was the LAN driver you wanted and not the WLAN yes?)

LAN = cable
WLAN = wireless :D

Run windowsupdate, with a bit of luck, that might find all the drivers you need

HD audio driver..
http://majorgeeks.com/Realtek_High_Definition_Audio_for_2KXP03_d4902.html

Use one of the 3 links in the middle of the page.

---

The one that I said should give you ethernet (unless your pc says ethernet, but means wireless -unlikely)

----

For the video driver, download this.. http://www.aida64.com/downloads Aida64 Extreme

install/extract it and go to the section..
Display, WindowsVideo/GPU until it tells you which graphics chip it uses.. likely to be something like..

Ati
Nvidia
Intel
SIS

Get the manufacturer name and model no, then post it here, someone will point you in the right direction
