Ethernet Issues?

Having some weird problems with my onboard ethernet on my MSI X870 motherboard, i've got full fibre 900 and usually its around 920 down and 115 up, noticed before it was sitting at around 90 on both, tried rebooting the router and nothing changed, disabled and renabled the LAN the same, rebooted pc still the same, only when I unplug the network cable and plug back in do the speeds increase, i've had this happen before, would it be right in thinking the ethernet could be faulty or on its way out? I've tried a few cables aswell so not sure its that, unless i've just been unlucky with possible cheap cables?

Sounds like auto-negotiation is dropping to 100 Mpgs rather than 1 Gbps which it should be. Could be a bad cable or driver issue. Have you swapped the cable out to test another, and looked at updating the drivers?

Was just typing a reply to myself saying I may have answered my own question........... reading reviews of the item I'm using it appears that although its advertised as CAT8 cable loads of people giving one star saying it maxes out at 100mb, looks like its using 30awg wire also, i bought a roll of 24awg before christmas as I plan on trying to run some cables through walls etc to various rooms so will try making one from that first and see how I fair. I had tried other cable but maybe that was also a cheap heap of junk too! updated drivers also :)

Cat 5e will do and it will be more manageable from a flexibility standpoint, don't buy super duper cables with all the bells and whistles advertising talking nonsense especially for 1 Gbps, it's snake oil. Cat 8 is for 40 Gbps IIRC.

Cat 8 is for data centres not a home environment.It has strict specifications and high bandwidth, that need specialised termination tools followed by rigorous testing.
