Ethernet Modem ADSL Question

At the moment I have and ADSL connection to the web via my USB Voyager 105 connecting to my telephone line. I want to get rid of the Voyager and replace it with an Ethernet adsl Modem. I am unsure if this will work for me as the telephone socket is down stairs, but my computer system is on the first floor.

On these Ethernet adsl Modem's, is there a port for the telephone RJ11 or whatever they are called to go into the modem then the Ethernet cable from the modem to the PC.

I am thinking of this as I doubt there will be any drivers for Vista on my 105.

Which Ethernet adsl Modem would be best for me

TIA :)

Hi there just thought that this might be of interest to you as you have a usb modem these 2 makes are going to be ok with drivers ..

Hi there ,can you tell me if the ZyXEL's Prestige 630-C1 modem will work with Windows Vista ,or will have new drivers for it ? thanks Neil..

They will be due to release new drivers for it,when the retail version is released.

Hi there ,can you tell me if there will be new drivers for MRI-IDSL02 for Windows Vista 64 bit ? thanks Neil

Hi
Unfortunately we are not shipping Vista drivers until the official consumer release due to last minute bug fixes, which can result in unexpected results. So you will just have to be patient.

Best Regards,

You should be fine to connect your ethernet router to the phone line down stairs and run an ethernet cable from the router to the PC.
as for recommending a particular router Linksys Netgear both make good kit

Thanks for that, all I need to do is choose one then ;)

Have seen this one, which looks good

Netgear DG834 ADSL Modem/Router/Switch/Firewall for under £50
thats a good Router ... ;)

The cheapest and simplest and just as fast as a router is a Adsl pci card bought several for around £5 at auction best get the Connexant chipset as they have the best software giving line state etc etc. Just run an RJ 11 cable from the telephone socket to the back of the card in the puter. There is no advantage in a router unless one needs several connection and they use elecricity and they are not faaster or more reliable The only advantage in a router was if you were to use Vista but then of course one needs a nic card with the drivers for vista - another ball game
