Ethernet Powerline Adaptors.

So what actual throughput/speeds are you all getting with these adapters? Someone above states 35mbps on the 200mbps advertised ones. Anyone else?

I've been using some Zyxel 500Mbps for a while, 200Mbps before that always worked fine for me.

I get 100-120Mbps up or down consistently. Not measured it properly but they seem to add 2-4ms on my ping so nothing really...

As said before it all depends on your house wiring, I am lucky in the fact all my sockets run off 1 ring so get good speeds all over the house with them.

I would like to add that my wiring is ancient and am using a power strip on one end :)

I heard in the past they can't be used with power strips, is that still the case?

They work. Speed can sometimes be degraded, not always though.

I guess the argument is, if they provide more stability than wireless, who cares if they only provide 10mbps, if 10mbps is higher than your internet connection speed.

For me personally, I couldn't live with my home LAN being less than 100mbit absolute minimum because I use it for various other network traffic which needs to be fast. I chose gigabit and was happy to run the cable. But each to their own.

I have three TP-Link 200Mbps ones (two of which are pass-through) and they've been fantastic since I got them in December. Not had a single problem with them, and setting up was as simple as it gets; connected cables to adapters, plugged them in, turned them on and that was that. No set-up wizards, no pressing buttons to pair them. Even with one of them connected to a switch which feeds my Sky box, PS3, 360 and TV, I've had no bother.

The only thing that lets the TP-Link ones down is the software, they seem to do a different version of the software for each different adapter and none of the versions are very good. That said, you don't need the software at all anyway, useful for seeing speed stats but that's it.

Power strips are usually fine, as long as they aren't surge protected.

I've got the Mrs's PC on the end of a 4m extension reel and there is little to no degradation in speed/ping.

Don't do it ... think of all the shortwave listeners living near you, you'll turn your house wiring into a big aerial transmitting a constant drone across many important frequencies ... think of the airwaves chaos man ... the airwaves C H A O S !!!!

:( soon it'll be DAB radio or nothing ... we're all doomed :(

on the other hand, fast household internet ... woohoo :o
