Ethernet Powerline and a Flat - HELP!

As above cable and solid copper core 5e is what i'd go with, avoid CCA as it's crap. Going back to powerline if you're on the same circuit breaker for the sockets then it's unusual you'd get such poor sync. Have you followed the usual stuff like not plugging into an extension/surge protected outlet?
I don't necessarily disagree with the choice of Cat 5e but these days it's not really any cheaper than Cat 6 and the latter is more likely to be compatible with 10G (which is already being seen on consumer motherboards). You can get 305m of solid core Cat 6 for £60, for example.

They're also cheap enough to throw away.

If I was running a cable around the skirting I'd want the thinnest most flexible cable I could find. For that you want Cat5e, preferably stranded.

10GBe on consumer motherboards is cute and probably a great step in the push for affordable 10GBe switches for home users, but going 10GBe isn't cheap. Even if you have switches in place you've still got the issue of large scale file storage being on mechanical drives which crap out at 250MB/s (WD GOLD 10TB is 249MB/s from the spec sheet), that leaves RAID involving stripes which generally isn't a great fit for home users or SSD's making a massive leap in capacity/price point.

I am not saying to buy Cat 6 for 10G, I am just saying that happens to be an added bonus of it. If you think Cat 5e is easier to use or whatever then fine. I haven't found any difference, personally.

Why else would you buy Cat6 instead of Cat5e except for possible 10GBe support? The only possible other benefit I can see is improved support for HDMI senders and that's a bit niche.

Don't tell my Balun kit it's running over 5e, they didn't like CCA over those distances, but 1080p is fine with copper core 5e.

Well, a slight strange turn.....

Further testing of the Powerline kit produced......perfect results, no loss of line speed! I'm gunna put the initial test down to my 10 year old laptop doing some weird things at the time of testing.

I have tested the sockets in the Living room, Spare room, Bedroom and Kitchen and no loss of speed. I have also tested in the morning, afternoon and evening! Great news!
