Ethnicity Codes

Why have I recieved 6 pages of ethnicity codes from my children's nursery, of which I am to select one that matches? Why is this requested? What is it used for? Does this help in reducing descrimination or improve outcomes?

Moist such forms I've seen tend to have maybe half a page with a dozen or so tick boxes and "other ______".

Lets start with white British/Euro/American... we're just human, we're leaning away from religions, we've advanced humanity away from eating banana's, living in tents and things. We may have even landed someone on the moon how amazing! but even that is subject to belief! So how the f is anyone supposed to believe in any god that someone mentioned over 1400 years ago? I mean, a leader enjoys grabbing women by their vagina's, yet a religion doesn't bat an eyelid over the fact that some prophet or god got it on with a little girl. I mean, really?

Literally never touched the stuff, yet offered it sooooo many times in my youth, yet I was always seen as the only one with a level head.

Not bothered particulary, I just think it is interesting that it is recorded and used. The government tells us that the NHS an education system need to modernise and become efficient yet enforce the circulation, collection and colation of documents like this. I am stuggling to see it's purpose but maybe I am missing something...
