EU sets date for common phone charge cable

Tbf the amount of cables I've had over the years definitely makes sense to get some standardisation amongst new tech, Apple giants have to play nicely too now which is much better

The last few phones I've had over the past 5-6 years have all been wireless charging, never needed to use a cable for anything as filetransfer is all done via bluetooth.

That may certainly be the preferential use case going forward, I know I certainly charge mine wirelessly more often than plugged in. However wireless charging is magnitudes slower than wired, so wired still has its place.

Standardisation should be everywhere for all devices across the world IMO. The problem comes with change. Wgho dictates how to do things and set standards.

There's no way Apple will customised a phone just for another country. no chance. They haven't done it up to now for other countries.

That’s not entirely true as there have always been at least two models of every iPhone for cellular frequency band support reasons. Usually one is USA/SE Asia supporting CDMA and the second is Rest of World which doesn’t support CDMA. iPhone 6 had a Japan only version supporting the weird Japanese 1500MHz cellular band which ****** up GPS accuracy.

Lets see what happens.

Yes, if the governments of the world took the environment seriously (and had the courage to challenge the major corporations), then just about every consumer good would have standards.
For a starter as well as chargers, all the batteries in phones, laptops, power tools, ebikes, electric cars, etc. should all have UN (ISO) standards.
The right to repair should override any patents or copyright nonsense.
That's a nice minimum start to making consumer goods more environmentally sound.
Some might complain it would stifle innovation but imagine it had applied to cars all these years: 2-3 chassis sizes per vehicle class, all wings or doors have to fit the standard mounting points, etc. Manufacturers could still have differentiated their cars but there would have been a far smaller amount of waste.

Bluetooth?

Not WiFi?

At home sure, but when out and about I just use bluetooth for the laptop even though I could use my phone as a hotspot, just can't be bothered to set it up as BT is sufficient for now.

I use Google Drive. Install it on your laptop and it will mount itself in File Explorer as drive G (or the next available drive letter). Then on your phone, you can just send whatever files you want to Google Drive. Then you can access the files in File Explorer in a matter of seconds. That's over home wi-fi and on your travels using phone data. Data is cheap nowadays, £12/month for 30GB or £16/month for unlimited. If abroad, then use data roaming and/or hotel wi-fi.
