The Spain game should be good, quite like both teams. I'm not really pleased about Spain leaving Cesc out though, would have liked to have seen how he'd cope at a big tournament. That coupled with the fact I think he's Spain's best midfielder anyway ..

Will be interesting watching Spain. I think it's quite obvious that the English based players get frustrated with the slow moving nature of the Spanish based players, as a result Alonso and Fabregas want to do stuff a lot quicker than the rest of the team will allow.

Aye, when I watched Spain vs USA the other night they were just ridiculously slow with absolutely no penetration, they just didn't look bothered about creating chances, their loss imo.

I can see Torres getting frustrated if that doesn't change to be fair. You watch Liverpool and see how quickly they ship the ball to Gerrard and how he penetrates quickly, lays of quick passes/crosses so Torres can quickly get by and beat the defender to the ball.

You don't get that with the national team who seem to want to play a more tactical game. It doesn't always work. Spain are gonna have to get the ball to their wingers very quickly, the problem is, Spain like playing 5 in the middle and 1 up top and Aragones, aside from being a racist, also has an issue with Spainiards who play abroad, as a result he tends to name Spanish based players first and foremost. He's already stated 'If David Villa is fit, he plays'.

Putting 4 in the middle, 2 wingers, Alonso and Fabregas, Alonso is a long passer/tackler and Fabregas is probably the best short passer in the game, with 2 wide players getting past players and getting crosses in to Torres and Villa seems common sense as you'd be playing to 3 of their best players' strengths, I'm sure if you asked David Villa which method he'd rather play he'd want pace and penetration too, it really makes the strikers jobs SO much easier.

Yeah that was what I noticed too, by the time they got it near Torres he was surrounded by 2 CB's and then when the ball finally got played to him he had a DM on him too, it was literally 3 players surrounding him nearly every time he got the ball. There was absolutely no runs down the wings, no crosses being swung in. All the passes in midfield were horizontal and you could see Torres was just getting annoyed. Without Alonso and Cesc (their best 2 passers) I can't see any quick moves forming tonight either, their passing wasn't slick enough and it certainly won't be with neither Cesc or Alonso.

I was looking forward to the Spain game up until I heard he was leaving out Cesc and Alonso, now I'm not really anticipating anything special, I'm even considering the idea that Russia could grab a goal and get a 1 - 0

Aside from the fact I support Arsenal, I just think it's criminal to leave Fabregas out, who does the manager think he is?

It really is incredible.

It's like Germany leaving Ballack out, Portugal leaving Ronaldo out, Italy leaving Buffon out, Holland leaving Nistelrooy out or France leaving Henry out.

Ridiculous really. It's just not going to happen, but for some reason Aragones does have issues with players playing outside of Spain.

i have Spain to win 3-1 Torres to score first,

Spain to win 3-0 Torres to score last

Spain to win 2-1 Ramos to score first :p

And an accumulator on for Spain and Sweden to win...

Italy lost me an accumulator last night, sods

France leaving Henry out.
Which is kind of funny, because while he raely left him completely out, Domenech insisted for ages on playing Heny completely out of position and unsupported. He's another manager who seems to have a bugbear about English-based players. I mean, Abidal over either of ou left-backs. Really?

I fancy Russia to win this one. They have a decent team, and a better manager. Of couse, this is entirely unrelated to them being my sweepstake pick.
