Eurofighter - Nothing Comes Close

It has to be said though F22>all

I'd agree there mate, although the F14 is still IMO one of the most beautiful planes ever made.

VTOL is the way forward though. Makes the plane as a whole so much more versatile.

A plane (not capable of vertical take off) is standing on a runway that can move (imagine a huge big conveyor belt).

The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyer moves in the opposite direction. This conveyer has a control system that tracks the plane speed and tunes the speed of the conveyer to be exactly the same (but obviously in the opposite direction).

Can the plane take off?

its the air speed that is required rather than speed relative to the ground

so no

That was certainly an entertaining vid, and its sure packed with technology, but how long before it becomes obsolete, and useless against new terrorist technology!?

I loved the whole missle loop the loop thing to blat the bogey - smart!

/signs up to RAF!

Thats the JSF(Joint strike fighter) Which is nearing completion. Its a joint venture between the UK, USA and possibly others im not sure. Although there asr diplomatic problems at the moment, as the US are refusing to give the software secrets and codes to the UK when we receive our batch of planes. And the UK have refused to accept any fighter without the software codes.

I would understand their reluctance to give codes etc to Iran, but to their closet "friends"

No  There has to be a wind speed over the wings to generate lift

Apologies, I really enjoy making aircraft noises.

you made me spit coffee all over my keyboard :D

Funniest thing I have read on here yet (good job I'm not wearing my white shirt!)

Doesnt the Raptor cost an arm and leg compared to EF/JSF etc?

Yes, but IIRC as shown there a lot of the EFs information is given to it through an AWACs, whereas an F22s information is mostly tracked on board, which is why its more expensive. Dont hold me to that though as a icould be totally wrong.

Not this again :p

I believe there was going to be a VTOL version of the Eurofighter. Whether it actually happened or not, I dunno. Above post suggests not.

VTOL version of the JSF is in the offing if the Americans keep their side of the technology deal - so far they've taken the harrier tech and not reciprocated.

when I have the money, I'm gonna buy a harrier, get my pilots licence, THEN I'LL SHOW THE ARGIES WHAT FOR!

That Quote is probly lost on most of the Kids on this forum who were born after 1986!...

But not for us old Fogies!!.. ;)

My Dad told me when he was working at an office in Farnborough when the Eurofighter was in development, he was on the roof of this building... Nice hot day!... Deck chair... Cold Drink n' Sarnies... Coming up for the Airshow week so there were a few nice aircraft about!... He saw the hanger where the Eurofighter was stored, open its doors the plane pushed out on to the taxiway, Fire up its engines and (in my dad's own words)

"It took off in about 50yards and went vertical almost immediatly!... I lost it when quite fast only for it to come banging over my head 2 minutes later from behind me!!... Full Afterburners!"...

This was one of the only days that year that I didn't accompany my dad to work! I was well Peed!!... He didn't even have a camera!...

Wouldn't say the way forward - we've had it since the P1127 in 1960. ;)

It's the only sensible way to operate aircraft from a carrier though.

Why change the habit of a lifetime...

Back in the 40's we gave them the jet engine in return for their supersonic development information *prior to going supersonic this was* We send over Frank Whittle's invention plus all associated maths and designes - Our guys go over to get their info and get told that it's top secret and they can't see it.

If only we had built and operated the TSR-2 instead of Labour killing the project.

That was so advanced it still would have been a 2nd line aircraft today. :(
