Europe to get the first batch of PS3's

they should just shut ebay and all the auction sites down, they are full of scammers and rip off merchants with their over inflated prices and fake goods. Gone are the good days where you could walk into a store and buy something new just out, instead you gotta go to ebay and pay some over the odd prices or wait.

I persoanlly hate these people too, be it right or wrong, these people just make others more unhappy just because they have the extra cash to plonk down on pre-orders, then boast about how much profit they make.

They aint breaking any rules, are they?
How would you like it if people hate you for doing a legit business....No one is stopping you from doing the same :)

As people have said, they are only over the odds if people "choose" to bid over the odd prices. They dont have to bid. Buying up all the stock in advance to sell on, is a bit more questionable though, but not illegal and not serious enough to make illegal either.

I look at it this way - I'm a gamer, I love gaming. If I buy a PS3 at launch, purely to make a large profit on fleaBay, I'm effectively (ever so slightly) reducing the number of list-price units available to other true gamers.

Possibly, that one console may have been bought by 'GamerX' for the usual price, but now 'GamerX' may have to pay a hugely inflated price - because he really wants one & couldn't get a launch console (possibly because of people like me buying consoles solely to sell on).

How am I not ripping him off in some way or other?

I have no issue with someone reserving however many on pre-order , collecting one and (preferably) telling other stores you dont need the rest.

You want one ( and you are putting down multiple deposits to prove it) and so there is no issue.

the other guy ISNT earning the money - its not much better than blackmail or kidnap, still getting a big payoff for something that isnt his in the first place and he dont actually want. Its holding someone (the buyer) for ransom

lol, yeah kidnapping and blackmail are in the same league as buying a ps£ for profit, damn i'm a criminal!

You arent the only person who does it though - I wouldnt be surprised if 50% or more of the initial stock is resold this way - thats what makes it wrong.

This is why I think the world is the way it is, people just look at the smallest possible view - their own - they dont look at the whole globe.

GamerX could only NOT get a launch console because of YOUR activities, there would have been one more available for pre-order or actually on the shelf to pick off - of course you are wripping him off - no other way of looking at it

I would call making obscene profit for basically doing nothing at all to what you are selling a crime yes.

It may not be law, but I bet all companies world wide would agree with me. After all I am sure they would prefer to have their units in real gamers hands rather than mercilous "business" people

I think you need to read my post again FJH - I'm saying I wouldn't do it, that it takes away from other gamers.

Isnt buying and selling for profit, one of the reasons that we in the west are wealthy and can afford to pay for expensive toys in the first place?

Selling for profit is one thing , what I dont agree with is primarily not adding any "value" to what you are selling and secondly the fact that ebay massivly inflates prices by "fake" bids

Dont you wonder why quality of life is repeatedly stated as being happier in the east? Everyone is driven by wealth in the west , not such a great thing to boast about!!

You are also ignoring the fact that there are enough people who could afford the street price of object X legitimately who dont get it because of scamming bayers charging 100% PROFIT

Sorry I see what you are saying - but you still fell into the trap of people who do; who look at what they do only (by considering your first paragraph only) - you say reducing "slightly" but everyone should consider how many bay articles there will be for launch ps3's .........it wont just be one or two there will be a large proportion of launch units ending up on there, that is what is wrong.

appologies for misinperpreting your post
