  • 380 matches across Europe fixed
  • Some 425 match officials, club officials, players and criminals are suspected of being involved
  • match-fixing has taken place in 15 countries and 50 people have so far been arrested.
  • Investigation from 2009 for ~18 months.
  • Suspected matches included World Cup and European Championship qualifiers, two Champions League ties and "several top football matches in European leagues".
  • A Champions League tie played in England

Well this is new and exciting! No name or details will be released at this time though... Some people are going to get in trouble!

CL tie was played in England within the last 3/4 years, because of current judicial proceedings they won't name the teams or specific details.

"It would be naive of people within the UK to think that this didn't happen there, though the focus has mainly been on other parts of Europe."

:/

Could always be the overseas team involved in the fix. Be a big shock if it was the British club.

The British club may have been unawares if it was the ref who had been bought. I've seen a few who were quick to red card a player.

Thank for for that, I really was starting to wonder how on earth Chelsea won the champions league last year.

So that's how Chelsea won the Champions League.

:p

Concerning stuff though, hopefully it doesn't involve any of our teams, and certainly none of Champions League clubs. I imagine it doesn't, but you never know.

Four years could include the Chelsea vs Barca, the worst officiated game I have ever witnessed which robbed Chelsea.

Although could be the non send off of Drogba for flailing about like a fish last year :p

I would be surprised if it is any more than a game played against english opposition. I would be amazed if any of the top english teams are involved in the fixing themselves.

Football in recent times has been taken over by the large international betting / casino companies. Watch a game on Sky or ITV and every ad break will be dominated by companies offering live odds or driving you to their mobile sites to get the latest odds/betting opportunities. We also have shirt sponsors, live advert boards all promoting gambling, betting and casino games.

Football is being ruined by gambling, regulation is needed, hopefully this investigation will bring some common sense, but I suspect it won't.

Yet another corrupt sport, been saying for years footy is corrupt, despite people thinking I was off my trolley, but didn't quite realise it was so deep and didn't expect it to come to light tbh; home leagues, champions league, euro cup and world cup games, absolutely shocking.

Just far too many dodgy decisions/results over the years for it not to be, imo.

The beautiful game ruined by money money money...

Will it make any difference? I doubt it.

Probably going to get flamed and im not the sort of person to put on a tin foil hat but i thought the way Man City won the league last year was just too perfect and frankly a bit fishy.

Or maybe im just a butthurt Man U fan :p

I thought the same but it's impossible to prove either way, also when West Ham beat Man United to stay up that season and then signed Tevez from them struck me as dodgy.

I'm surprised how few posts this thread has got so far, considering it was started at 11 this morning, I would have thought the posts would be flying in.

680 matches fixed over the last few years!

I bet the CL tie in England will have the most tenuous of links to an English club/referee. We'll see if I'm proven wrong.
