Taking the Mrs to Paris for her b'day next week, will be there from 9am Mon until 5pm Wed. Will use my Mastercard where I can, how much cash though? £100 or so in Mickey Mouse money be ok? Where's best to get it from over the counter?

ICE. Get a voucher from the internet (from their website) as it gives you online delivery prices, in store. When I got my money I just showed them the voucher on my friends phone but the guy at the next counter wasn't able to do this so print it off.

As for how much money, that depends on how much you spend! Paris is awfully expensive and drinks/snacks in the day will quickly add up.

Banks tend to have the best convertion rate.
Check with your bank, it may actually be cheaper to use the ATM while abroad instead of using cash converters :)

No.

RBS sells at 1.19,
Tesco sell at 1.21,
BOS sell at 1.21,
ICE sell at 1.22.

I feel a bit like Fox.

The best I've found on the high street is the post office, unfortunately I'm no where near anything like ICE and by the time I pay delivery there's nothing to gain.
As above banks are terrible.

I don't think the rates you get when withdrawing abroad are bad at all, getting some cash before you go would only be of interest to me if I was worried my card may be blocked (touch wood it never has).

Yeah I just use my card in the cash machines abroad for the convenience and since whenever I have done it the rate has been better than most of the usual suspects and only slightly worse than the best you could get if you went out of your way. Don't have to carry lots around, can get more/less out if you need more/don't need as much.

See that site says the cheapest you can get €100 delivered is £86.43. When I was in Berlin last month i took €100 euros out of the cash machine and paid £85.22 (and the spot rate was 2c lower at that time).

the ER on delivered cash sucks hard, always collect it

The *rates* you get with a cash machine will be excellent - they are typically the Visa base rate which is about as good as it gets.

The trouble is that most banks will charge a per transaction fee of about £2-3 *and* then load the rate with a 2.99% charge.

So if you ARE going to use your debit card, make one large withdrawl not many small ones to lessen the impact of the transaction fee.

The Tesco rate looks decent enough, and is the most convenient too I think.

Is £100 about right for two days? I can buy Metro tickets, meals etc with my card, just not sure if the tourist attractions accept card payments.

personally i would either take more or be prepaired to withdraw some off my debit card if need be.
tesco do a 'buy back' service where they will buy back any unused euros at the rate you exchanged at but it costs £3.95 iirc so its only worth doing with larger amounts

This is a troll post right? Banks have never, in the history of banking, had better rates than the likes of even the post office / M&S or, as mentioned, the best place around, ICE
