why don't any main stream bands/groups play eurovision rather than these people

The Russian entry, Dima Bilan is huge in the former USSR countries and is mainstream to the point where Timbaland produced his song and album.

Most of them are quite big in their own countries.

Absolutely. It's not like the old days when Eurovision could actually launch a career. These days it's a one way ticket to getting voted out of town by the usual politics. For example, we all know the UK will never win. Not ever.

Still, for entertainment value it's right up there. Chiki chiki.

Nope.

The thing that rules out most European acts we have heard of is because they are British and the British have a very snobby attitude towards Eurovision.
