EV cable future planning

I'd go for conduit & a pull cord.

There's a couple issues you could come across if you direct bury something:
1. Regs change before you get a charger installed & therefore what you've installed doesn't meet the new regs (this is probably the biggest concern I'd have)
2. You decide you want a higher power charger than you're thinking now.
3. Whoever installs your charger isn't happy with using an existing cable (will they know/trust it's been buried correctly). Admittadly, this is still relevent for a conduit, but at least then you've not wasted a bunch of cash on a cable you can't use.

Next-door neighbour has just done this - he used 100mm conduit and left a pull rope in place. Octopus did the rest.

Don't put cable in it because no installer will use it. You need to go 450mm (18 inches) deep if you want to comply with regs as its not a low current circuit. Edit - also design for a decent bend radius as you can't bend these cables easily and they will get stuck on a pull through.
