EV general discussion

Ah yes, that. Interestingly, the trip to Hayling was to see my mother and her husband. Both are Daily Mail and Express readers. It was almost a game of anti-EV bingo.

Don't they catch on fire?
They cost more to run than a petrol car
They are so heavy that they damage the roads
People get locked inside them
The batteries fail after 5 years and then what are you going to do?
I heard that they don't work when it's cold
They are so complicated compared to a normal car that no one can fix them
How are you going to do long journeys in it if you need to charge it for 24 hours every 100 miles?

All things that are easily refuted with a tiny bit of logical thought, or 1 minute on Google, but because it was 'in the paper' it must be true.
Did you bother responding to them on this? :p

the latest model y juniper models have blended braking but not on the model 3 highland
honestly with one-pedal driving i (personally) don't find the lack of regen on the brake pedal a deal breaker...i don't think i use my brake pedal for most of my trips tbh
it's a nice to have and it's nice to see that tesla have finally brought this feature back and caught up to the competition lol
I turned off 1 pedal driving on my ipace. I just find it a more enjoyable drive without it.... so for me it's a massive miss not having it on the brake pedal on (most of) Tesla's. surprising really given how tech advanced the cars are.

I did for the first couple and then just started interrupting them mid-******** with "Let me guess, you read that in the paper? If so, it's rubbish.". Then I ended with "Look, you can apply this simple rule. Did you read it in the Daily Mail? If yes then assume it's lies. You'll win more than you lose that way".
I've given up trying to reason with them about things like this. They are both in their 80s and have never had to think for themselves before and aren't about to start doing it now.

the only use for that system for me (and to be fair it's a big one) is being able to put the car in and get out of our UK tiny garages.
that's a good use tbf (i don't have a garage so never considered it)
if it's a car park though, i'd be less sure, as the other car's driver/passenger will likely open their door and ding the metalwork...better to find a larger parking space haha

you know the accelerator pedal is not an on/off switch right? :P

Of the 3 EVs I've had so far the one pedal driving on the iPace was the best. It was probably the main thing I missed about it to be honest.

isn't it? ;)
I drove with 1 pedal driving for 2 years so it isn't that I can't do it ... and my wife still has it set up on her i3 so when I drive that I do use it
I just prefer/enjoy the feel of the drive without it on. subjective I know!. but I wouldn't want to gimp my regen or put extra wear and tear on my brake pads/discs either.

It's super annoying to have to keep the foot on the pedal and finely modulate the pressure when you want to coast though. I'm with big mike on this one, using the brake pedal is much better!
oh you guys with feet made of lead :P
(that being said, i'll have to try it on mine, see if i like it or not...but my switch from ICE to one-pedal driving was very seamless as i never liked to press the brakes even when i was driving my ICE  )

More lazy feet haha. It’s more relaxing not to press on either pedal when coasting

so what happens when you want to show someone some brake lights - I'm coming towards a level crossing or a corner and someone is right behind,
I tap the brake pedal to show my intention, before I start real braking/engine braking, all part of that legacy fun of driving.

need to use the friction brakes too, time to time, to avoid the corrosion&replacement - what is the latest on the seal drivers ombuddsmans appeal.

One-pedal braking using regen still shows brake lights on all modern EV's (afaik). Only my Gen 1 2013 Leaf doesn't, and the amount of regen without pressing the brake pedal is more like engine braking than one pedal driving.

Yep, the Tesla will show the brake lights unless you are just very slightly adjusting the throttle. So there's really no issue on that front.

And the reasoning for this is.........?

What differs a good product from a quality product? What would you compare Tesla to then also?

Tesla does some of the basics but scrimps on some other things:

No proper gear selector

Cameras instead of proper radars for cruise

Camera for auto wipers

All cost-cutting measures.

It is not designed to be a quality product. It’s designed to be good at being cheap.

There’s nothing wrong with that, it just isn’t a “quality product”.
