It also keeps the pressure on other manufacturers to offer better value, not just VW, allowing Tesla to e ensure that the momentum they started continues, even if they don't offer a truly affordable entry level product yet.

Will be interesting to see if the UK price drops later in the year, if they could get it to £35k after the grant then that would and excellent entry point against other manufacturers.
 
For the people leasing EV’s the RRP price has a lower impact to the overall cost. The predicted future value (% depreciation) determines the cost over the term.
I was looking at the Mach-E RWD extended range model which is about the same price at the Polestar 2, but leasing it was coming out at about £50pm more expensive.
 
Shortage of supply of Mache-e versus polestar - no ? so they probably command a premium, albeit free trade agreement with Mexico, could/should make them better value ?

I'm still surprised by the few Nissan electric vehicles they are bringing out ie just the Ayira. being, google tells me, nearly the same size, as honda/ford.
 
Just got my Octopus Energy juice card. Merges a few suppliers into the one car but disappointingly rates are same as PAYG. Ie Osprey 36p whereas app offers 31p/kWh.


Talking of which I went slightly back from full electric mid week, atleast this one does DC CCS Charghing at 32kW though.

Snap! Got my Octopus Electric Juice card, after seeing you post about it. Not really looked deeply into it yet but from what you're saying it's worse off :(

On brighter news, I finally got to pick up my e-Niro this morning and took it on around 75 miles of driving (running errands to family members, due to COVID shielding) and I have to admit - I've fallen back in love with driving again. May just be that lockdown has less people on the road but I really am enjoying the simplicity of EV driving. Put it in D and just go.

Even though I had the test drive for around an hour, this one just feels taughter and definitely throwable in terms of corners etc. Need to get some more mileage under my belt to properly adjust to brake regen but apart from that VERY happy with it :D :D

Has the supplier API and the Jaguar API so knows where is taking energy from and what it’s sending it to, it’s already shown the charging curve which is neat.

There’ll also be a new Qashqai hybrid model fitted with Nissan’s e-POWER system. This uses a petrol engine purely as a generator to charge the car’s batteries. The only thing actually turning the wheels is the car’s built-in electric motor. This means you can charge it up at home to run in silent electric-only mode. And, when the batteries are almost flat, it can switch on the petrol engine to get you home.

The petrol engine produces 155hp and the electric motor uses the energy it generates to produce 190hp. The Qashqai e-POWER model will be front-wheel-drive only, and Nissan will fit it with the same e-pedal system as the Leaf electric car. This will let you drive using one pedal most of the time.

no details on battery size , but must be sufficient to qualify as a hybrid for tax ie 12KWh/30miles,
so you haven't got the complexity of a tc transmission combining the two drives, but,
you must be loosing efficiency on a long drive, will be interesting to see mpg, presumably, when the ICE is running, its under optimal conditions,
no need for a heat-pump, too

... just realised hybrids are good until 2035.
 
I’ve had my iPace one year now and still absolutely love it. Only done 4K miles due to COVID and wfh meaning very little commuting but that includes two holidays in Scotland.

is an EV for everyone? Not at this point. For me it’s perfect as I can charge on the drive and rarely do more anywhere near the max range per day. When I do it’s been Scotland, and that’s been easy with public charging at Gretna and then Charge Place Scotland (which is free but a bit mixed in terms of reliability). If you need to rely on public charging or do 20k miles a year it’s not there yet.

Reliability has been perfect and the 4wd most welcome in two bouts of 6” of snow. I have two years left on the lease, then after that I’ll obviously be looking around at options, but right now I’d probably go iPace again unless JLR electrify the Defender or Disco Sport.

After a year of EV usage I wouldn’t go back to ICE, other than a hobby/weekend car
 
My Polestar 2 leasing journey has been very convoluted so far.

Business contact hire finance application turned down by ALD automotive in October, only to be approved by Leaseplan in November (but slightly more expensive)
Radio silence for 7 weeks, and then an email on Jan 7th with the documents to sign.
An order confirmation from Polestar on 11th Jan saying my order has been placed.

And early this morning I had an email direct from Polestar telling me my car is in the UK, only for Polestar to tell me over the phone that isn't true.

You're doing quite well. I've only done 1,000 miles in my etron since 1st September........well, the mrs has. I've hardly driven it due to lockdown. I can't see me ever buying another petrol car though.

Had I known about covid back when I placed the order, I'd have been better off with a skateboard.
 
Same - Had my M3 for 18 months now - not even 7k on it yet!

Basically been working from home for 12 months now and no client visits so my mileage has been cut massively.

Public charging is improving around here - golf course has 2 x 7kw and there are 3 x 50kw and a load of 22kw within 5 miles of me now.

Still only used a Supercharger twice in 18 months - got 2000 free miles sitting on my account but doubt i'll use them before they expire!!

Can't see me ever going back to ICE personally.
 
It does look good.
Problem is - it’s not available until the end of this year and there are lots more EV’s coming before then. Can/will it be able to compete?!

I doubt it will have any issues competing at the end of the year but it all comes down to the price, plenty of far worse cars out there now like the Leaf!

We are not getting a Model Y this year and it seems to compare to the mach-e well (price dependent), seems to be a step up from the Nero in terms of interior. What else are we expecting in this segment? I.D. 4 (including its sister vehicles) and ?
 
You think the Ariya looks good, design wise ? they're bringing out one model, and have had to swing the suv/big-grille style for eastern/usa markets
maybe it has the technology and they have good battery system though;
theres no indication yet if renault or mitsibushi are also going to use the platform too.

I'm still finding the quashqi with range extender strategy more intriguing.

I wouldn't take any style tips off me but I would describe it as 'inoffensive', sure its not a looker but no crossover is and it doesn't look ridiculous like a lot of modern BMW's. You don't buy a crossover because it's a nice looking sports car at the end of the day, you buy it because you want the 'look' of an SUV/proper 4x4.

The side profile looks almost identical to a Model Y and Mach-E. Like I said, it all comes down to the price and it needs to come in cheaper than a Model Y to be compelling.
