34000 euros makes the SR+ much closer to the ID3 pricing. Perhaps the ID3/4 is making Tesla nervous. The European market is very conservative and until thew Berlin factory opens many people will be going VW.
It also keeps the pressure on other manufacturers to offer better value, not just VW, allowing Tesla to e ensure that the momentum they started continues, even if they don't offer a truly affordable entry level product yet.
Will be interesting to see if the UK price drops later in the year, if they could get it to £35k after the grant then that would and excellent entry point against other manufacturers.
