You haven't really said why you don't like the other cars so it's hard to say. They also all come in actual colours and have carplay so you haven't really given a good reason to consider the Mustang over those haha

What about the Kia EV6/Hyundai Ioniq 5?

If you will do loads of long trips needing en route charging get the Tesla, otherwise just buy whichever you like best.
 
I don't go into details as people on this forum have a habbit of arguing and telling you why you're wrong if you state why you don't like a car.

I perhaps worded my question poorly. I'm just interested in hearing the experiences of others who were shopping in this segment and what they found. I've edited my original post.

I ended up with a Tesla Model 3 but it’s basically the same car. It’s a decent car, it has a few quirks but as do they all. They all have their pluses and minuses in regards to their capability, software and build (and quirks).

They’re both good as are the Kia/Hyundai. Test drive them all and see which you prefer. Buy that one.

The only one I don’t rate as good as the others in this segment is the ID.4. It’s just not as good.

I get the comment about android auto/car play but to be honest I don’t miss it on the Tesla. The software if good enough without it.

There are also negatives in using those systems on an EV. They don’t communicate with the car so if you are using them for navigation, they don’t know when you need to charge* and they don’t pre-condition the battery so the car charges slow than it could.

*yes I know that some apps can fudge it using the cars API but this isn’t normally officially supported and you often need to hand over your user credentials for the car to a 3rd party. It also don’t tell the car to precondition the battery so you’ll not get the full charging speed.

Have you tried a Mach E. I have read a few long term reviews and it doesn’t come across that well (but no experience myself)

The only problem with the Model Y is it is pretty ugly and there’s also so many of them
 
I tried all the cars listed and ended up with an I-Pace. The Mach-E has door cards that bend when given a mild push and that is one of my build quality tests. It just didn’t feel as well put together as I would like for a very premium price. Though I did love how it looked in the metallic red.

Frankly the Model Y at the time was massively overpriced and nowhere near the “premium” pricing they were asking. I am leasing and a model Y was the most expensive of the bunch in monthly payments. Tough at least the Model Y has dropped in price since then.

This is subjective but if I were choosing either I would pick the MachE because at least it has a bit of style IMHO. The Admiral Ackbar… er I mean the Model Y, is one bland ugly lump of a thing inside and out.

I'm interested in people's views on their buying decisions, not asking them to pick apart mine. I appreciate that using the phrase "am I mad" kind of invites that. I've used the wrong words to start the conversation, hence me re-wording the original post.

After some help if anyone knows, as my saga with work sorting new company car lease levels continues…..

Been offered an older Enyaq from someone that’s leaving. Not sure of age / spec yet but imagine it’s one of the first ish ones roughly a year old so concerned it may be slow charging, 50kw max.

Looking online I can’t find clear answer that ALL cars were given free upgrade to 100 or 120 (assuming it’s just an iV60) or only from certain age. And just trying to get facts to help my discussions.

Anyone know?

I have IO and Android, but with an Ohme charger which is a different integration. It was a bit fiddly settling it up if I remember right. I think IIRC the email address for the Ohme account and Octopus account had to match - maybe the same for Audi?

Not sure - going to try and have discussion later today, but just to go in armed with info.

I’m guessing it’s probs only the 60 based on past costs / budgets they would have had to work to, but I’m not sure……

I know the upgrade is all baked into new cars now, but it’s unclear on old ones if it’s software only? And a free upgrade so I don’t need to worry as they will all be aligned

It was a bug in their app. I installed an old version (3.71.1) and the process worked fine.

I discounted the Mach E as the reviews I read were not favourable. I find the Y ugly and although I like the 3, I felt it might be a bit small for us (2 adults, 2 kids, bikes, trip to the tip, beach, walks etc)

I went with the IPace. Having a dealer close by is useful as I live in West Wales so when our local BM dealership closed, I had to travel to Swansea for any dealer work which cost me a day. Closest Tesla centre is Cardiff so even further away.

I have friends with a Y and a 3 and both are happy (although both are the type of people that would tell you they are happy with it even when they're not)

To me, you get more for your money with the I Pace. The depreciation being what it is when compared to their list they're currently a bit of a bargain 2nd hand. Jaguar may still be offering the deal which was a chunk of money off, servicing, warranty and charger fitment which I thought was decent. The tech inside isn't particularly ground breaking - even with the updated Pivi Pro. The Performance seats are very cool although some say they don't "fit" with the look of the car but they were on my want list together with pan roof. Air ride and HUD are nice to haves but IMO not that important. Mine has the older touch duo rather than Pivi Pro but doesn't bother me and android in car thingy works perfectly.

Tricky segment.
I have thought about upgrading the Mrs from an ID.3 MAX to something bigger.. (Still waiting for work to sort out this damn EV Salary Sacrifice scheme..)

If just comparing those two..
The Mach-e felt more like a drivers car, nice modern/minimalist interior but don't like how it looks at all.
The Tesla is insanely efficient and has the Super charger network, but looks plain/odd as well, although cabin feels minimalistic and airy.. Needs a HUD though.

Basically, if you travel and want the least stress if public charging, the Tesla is hard to beat IMO..
Last one was going to Lands End for a wedding, stopped in Camborne, I'm queuing for the Instavolt by McDonalds, having just driven by the Tesla Supercharger (8 bays) with only 3 cars there.. :(
 
Colleague took me out for a spin in his new Polestar 2 with performance pack today. Have to say, don'not a fan of the exterior, but the interior is largely excellent. No scratchy plastics, everything seemed to have a premium feel to them and the use of a floating screen is nicely recessed into the dash/console design, something Tesla could learn from in order to get minimalist aesthetics but still remain functional and premium looking at the same time.

460BHP and 750Nm felt rather great on that chassis, very planted but you could feel that the power delivery and torque started to tail off once you go above normal motorway speeds.

Very impressed. Also liked the "frameless" wing mirrors.

I realy like that new Ionic 5 N though, looks fantastic, and Hyundai seem to be targeting enthusiast drivers too with what it's capable of. I'd get one lol.

Been told we can use salary sacrifice now for a EV.
Not really sure what net saving of that is.
I'm a bit into the 40pc band.

It's logical for EV, especially if can get cheap charging / free at work? Just need to be aware it can have an impact on pension (I think?) as it comes off your gross.

Bucket maths .....

£500 lease car, but you would "save" 42% tax and NI so you'd only really be paying 58% or £290
Then you need to pay BIK on teh P11D value, but only currently 2% so say a £50k car = 50k*.02*.4/12 = £33 per month

So you're effectively "spending" £323 for a £500 car
 
Just looked a bit more. One of those car websites explained it well.

You dont own the car at the end?
I assumed you kind of took out a loan for the car and paid it back and owned it at the end (like a mortgage).

So it's.. What.. 2-3-400 a month to not own the car??
