EV general discussion

Weird flex - you just have to pick a car that won't beat it. Yes the truck has immense power and torque and we know electric vehicles out-accelerate ICE but I'm not sure what they're trying to prove. If they did it with a Chiron then I might be more impressed, but then it wouldn't have won...

And no, I'm not jealous as my Polestar only has a single 220bhp motor...:D

For sure - I remember shopping in Florida at one of the larger supermarkets - one section was selling car & truck tyres, next to that big industrial power tools, ......then guns !
We went to a shooting range and with no experience of firing any guns were handed shotguns, M16's and a Taurus Raging Bull. All we had to do was leave our Passports at the desk :D :p

Perhaps the question should be, why wouldn’t you want ‘bullet proof’ panels in America?

That said I’m pretty sure it would only take a fairly standard small calibre round like a 9mm. Even then I expect some more exotic types of small calibre round would get through let alone anything bigger.

A round from an M16 would just go straight through it like it was butter.

It's a completely useless car for the UK but I love that it was it made. Who really needs bullet proof body panels ?!?! :D
I watched the launch event last night - the drag race was defo a cool idea :)

County line drug runners.
Gonna need bigger police cars to stop them

Did anyone see where they 're-did' the whole throwing a 'metal' ball at the window to prove it wouldn't smash?

In 2019 it was clearly a metal ball and the window smashed, before the ball fell to the ground and did a tiny hop, cause it's a metal ball.

In the launch even they did it and the ball both bounced off but then also bounced off the floor... Did not look/act like I'd expect a metal ball to act?

Allegedly it was a baseball this time. I presume it was meant to be funny/a meme because of what happened last time. They are actually selling smashed window decals you can put on the truck….

The whole event was a re-run of the previous event but with the real truck this time.

As was mentioned previously, the exoskeleton has also gone so you’ll not be hitting it with a sledge hammer either like last time round.

We looked into going EV and weighed it up, looked at costs and then like and decided the next vehicle will be a 2.0l diesel.

I see a few reviews of the Cybertruck today and if there was ever a truck for the Yanks, this is the one

That a very specific choice with regard to the engine size, what were the factors in deciding you can't have a BEV?

Range and having to really consider fragmented long journeys
Possible Charging station issues
Running costs
Reliability
Depreciation

And the future of EV vehicles, which imo will be phased out in favour of other tech.

The vehicle we will more than likely buy early next year will be a diesel BMW.

The above is based on what would suit us and be useable.

I was in an outdoor store in Florida back when I was 19 and with my brother 15 and we were looking at the guns. Guy behind the counter just unlocked the cabinet and gave us a desert Eagle to hold I freaked out and said no thanks. They are mental over there.

Somebody mentioned previously that the only difference between Tesla V3 and V4 chargers was a longer cable?

But Matt Watson said the Cybertruck has a 800volt architecture and will charge very rapidly on V4 Tesla chargers?

The current (pardon the pun) V4's can only do 250kW, they need an update to do 350kW.

Are there any levels 4's open to non-Tesla customers yet?
They all are and they all have contactless payment in the UK.

The 'V4' in Europe is a new stall design which is rated to 1000V but the cabinets feeding them are exactly the same as on the V3 chargers so that means 400V 625A peak.

The cyber truck is not coming to Europe so its not like being able to charge an 800V car is a priority for them at the moment over here.

Edit: it was me that said it was a new stall design and that's it, and that's because that is the case with what is deployed in Europe at the moment.
