EV general discussion

The BBC article on this is very vague.

I’m not even seeing any revelations here, it’s a matter of public record that Tesla’s automated driver functions suffer from phantom braking (and others to a lesser or greater extent). There are public forums discussing it daily be that Tesla’s autopilot or MG’s horrific lane keep assist.
yes no details from BBC - as I implied
the original summary of disclosure - theory on the reason for the accelerations, and the sheer number of incidents with documentation, not in the public eye, a revelation -
surprising that US safety organisation can hide the information from the public ( I don't think a jury would reproach the whisteblower. )

This seems cheap. Who was looking for an Ipace a few pages back?

Think they got one, but the drivers seat looks pretty tired to say the least. No wonder there isn't a up close photo of it!

For the charger can't we have a secure uwb interface from inside the car to authorize the whole payment ? so, outside of car, physically just have to plug it in.
Funnily enough the genius's at Jaguar tried this with Shell lol.

Yeah I used it a few times in my Velar back in the Incontrol app days. Posh pay at pump worked welll but you ended up using phone to authorise the payment anyway if ApplePay’ing

It’s not like at Ionity or BP etc you can’t just get in the car and use the app to start a charger anyway.

The idea of fixing the RFID or app “issue” by using ULTRA WIDEBAND radio unit akin the keys is hilarious. Sounds like an EV talker not yet walked the walk. No chargers at the Vatican Pope?

my ipace went for its 1st MOT last week.......... 46000 miles and it passed. only advisory was 4 new tyres so am happy with that

the black edition looks really nice in that colour, and it is the MY21 facelift model as well with upgraded infotainment, 11kw AC charging and the troublesome 12v battery got rid off.

i would have been over that like a rash if i still needed a car.

I think (but not 100% sure) that all main dealer cars come with a 2 year approved warranty and maybe even an EV charge point install thrown in as well, which is £2500 quids worth of extras (which makes me even more jealous ;) )

its a stupid car for the uk and its wise not to release it here...... but i dont mind the cybertruck looks wise. if you are gonna make a massive lump of a car then it keeps things interesting going totally off the wall.

it reminds me a bit of what a futuristic car would look like if predicted back in the 1980s. ...... it would look good next to a Delorean.

my main issue with it considering its size, it does not seem that practical in terms of the space in the back

Another price cut in October 2023 by Tesla for their cars, second one this year, values of used Tesla's could be under pressure?
No more so than any other used EV. If anything residuals are slightly better. Someone posted an advert for a nice iPace here the other day on a 2020 plate from a jag dealer for only £30k, bargain imo.

The price cut on the refreshed model 3 was only a price cut if you paid cash. Thy were doing the outgoing model on 0% finance, it was 6-7% at its peak, the new one was £2k cheaper but has a 9% apr attached to it and will cost you a lot more in the long run.

The model Y has been the same headline price for a long time, they cut the apr to 2.9% for a while but that’s ended now.

All manufacturers have cut prices almost across the board, it’s just less transparent as it’s done in the guise of dealer contributions, pre-registered cars and finance offers. No one is paying RRP for a normal car anymore and it’s very much back to the old days of snakes and mirror pricing.

Yup they just sent out the revisions for the Y with 3k deposit contribution on 3.9% finance or £399/m lease looked reasonable, think its just clearing stock.

Ignore the politics at the end, but good interview between Musk and Munro:

There is a bit of 'don't quite understand the subject matter' from Musk, but he gets by (Specifically talking about CAN/Ethernet) and in reality this is more just a cost saving from reducing the number and size of the cabling than anything that might benefit the user, I'm not sure it can really add too much from his other cars topologies..

Small refresh inbound, slightly revised dash with ambient lighting, door cards and new wheel covers for the standard option.

It’s been available to order from the Chinese website for weeks.

I think mine will be the current car when it arrives next week but the changes are really minor, no fomo here anyway.

visually i think the model 3 refresh is a big step forward. its only subtle but the front has gone from a car i really find ugly to one i quite like.

but dropping the indicator stalks.................. to me that is not only annoying but it is potentially a safety issue, and would likely put me off buying .
