EV general discussion

The Seal has two versions, the Design and the Excellence. Not sure about the Seal U and the Sealion as I didn't consider them, and your right, the names could have been better!

The Seal U has Comfort and Design (at least here in Spain), that mimics the choices of the ATTO 3 too.

I think the Sealion and the Seal (saloon) are newer models so maybe Design and Excellence is the new naming for the levels. The Seal U Design i've gone for includes the HUD. I think the main reason was the bigger battery and electric boot though. Do like the dual wireless chargers though. Quite often my wife and i are battling for it!

The Sealion was definitely what i'd have preferred, effectively very similar to the Seal U but without the compromises (slightly better design, better range and faster) but was another €6k, and i had already gone from a €32-€35k budget up to €40k!

granny charger or charging point?

Just as you commented i'm going to slightly hijack :D

We're building a house and currently in a rental. It'll be fitting a proper charging point in our house, but is there much of a difference on cables with a granny charger? I see a mix of pricing on Amazon from €50 to €300

@Martynt74 unfortunately I'm not sure
My Tesla came with both the Tesla granny charger and also the mennekes type 2 cable, so I didn't need to buy anything extra.

Maybe i'll get lucky then! I'll avoid buying anything in advance until i've spoken to the garage.

There's some great government grants for electric cars over here. Maybe i need to try and encourage the landlord to take advantage :D

Yeah would definitely double check first. If dealer doesn't know then potentially you could buy something off Amazon closer to delivery, and then return it if the car comes with the charger and/or cable

Good shout. Although I'll likely hang off, hopefully it comes fully charged and Amazon will deliver next day to avoid any risks.

Now to clear some space in the workshop building to be able to get to the plug sockets!

There’s definitely more to them than just being a cable - my official Polestar one has a large section in it which monitors temperature, has protection circuits and presumably lots of other things.

Whatever you buy, keep the current turned down below 10 amps, and ideally as low as you can afford to keep the car charged for what you need. It will be slow, but when the wiring quality of the house is unknown you don’t want to risk it, and the cable is not something to skimp on.

Treat it as an investment for every EV you buy from now on, and a backup for when you’re away from home! I’ve used mine a lot more than you’d expect, usually on holiday where the AirBNB owner doesn’t mind me charging but doesn’t have a wall charger, but also at my parent’s house.

Got to make of their winter fuel payment somehow… :D

Thinking of getting an i3, what are you guys using for home charger?
Zappi 2.1 here, integrated with Ovo Charge and works perfectly with my Taycan GTS. Cost around £1k fitted, by Ovo. Was a toss up between the Zappi and Hypervolt but the Zappi would seem to have been the better option for us as we are having solar panels fitted early next year and the Zappi pairs up with them very well.

I was using the Porsche Mobile Charger which was decent enough but limited to around 2.3kWh as I was using it via a 3 pin plug - it was just a stop gap until Ovo fitted the Zappi.

I keep it as a backup now, always handy to have a spare.

Good shout, i never thought about holidays/backup. There's a Spanish brand called Cecotec which does decent value stuff and they do one for €130 so likely go with that vs the cheap unknown ones from Amazon

It’s confirmed, Tesla’s shareholders are officially insane. At least most of the institutional investors voted against so there is some decent amongst the ranks. That said, I can’t see Musk achieving achieving those goals anytime soon.

I don't particularly see the issue with it on the face of it, he only gets this magic $1tn pay check if he actually makes the company worth it. It's not like they're just giving him the cash.

That's my completely uneducated opinion, I'm sure there's actual reasons why it's bad.

He just wanted to be in the news again - not enough attention since he was thrown out of the White House.

He'll probably get those targets changed though.

but then he doesn't get his $1tn no? Because that number is purely based on what the stock he gets given should be worth when the business is worth what have been set in those targets if they change then the business won't be worth the expected value or have I misunderstood (very possible)

The company will ‘only’ be worth $8tn if he even pulls it off. The $1tn isn’t free money, they literally just voted to make themselves $1tn poorer as a collective to stoke musks ego.

He'll change it so he does. That's obvious no.

He basically does what he likes because he's too rich to disagree with. He's more interested in his personal wealth than Tesla.

Well I've taken the leap, ordered a Enyaq Estate 85 edition.

Current car wasn't due back until March but Nissan have brought that forward by months so had to either order a replacement Qashqai/Juke or take the leap of faith to EV.

I really didn't want to be stuck with the options from Nissan (not got on well with the Qashqai)

So ordered the Enyaq as it was the safe option that was in stock, might go for something exciting next time.

The whole thing is just a **** measuring contest - it means nothing saying you’re a trillionaire. By the time you’re up in the billions you can literally do anything you want and money has become meaningless, and he’s already in the hundreds of billions. He doesn’t need contracts for SpaceX or people to pre-order his cars, he could fund it all himself easily. He just has to cash in shares of the company to do it, which then reduces the share value for everyone else.

He only went to the government to shut down all the agencies investigating his companies and feed his own narcissism, but it didn’t go well when put up against Trump’s own narcissism…

It’s also been helped by him replacing many of the board members which his own family and supporters who would green light anything for him, so the whole thing is a joke.

Anyway, this is the EV thread :D

The Enyaq is one of my favourite looking cars!
