EV general discussion

Charged my Taycan GTS last night at home on my Zappi and my 100% charge has dropped by about 10 miles or so. Last night was the coldest it's been of late.
mate your car is knackered. car batteries are like iPhones batteries and the car will now be really slow. i tell you what. I will give you £5k to take it off your hands :D

on a serious note my car failed its charging last night battery flagged up red and said charging fault take it to a garage. (or something similar).

unfortunately I was 30 miles away on the beers but I needed my car fully charged for a 220 mile drive today. luckily it failed on 94% so almost done and when I got back to it this morning a quick unplug and plug in again sorted it. an HR later it was fully charged so only a little late leaving my mates house.
fingers crossed it's a 1 off and not a fault. (if it is perhaps just the 12v battery past it's best)

it's now charging again now after getting home on 8% so I shall see what happens.

Looks like this week will be the first test of how the chilly weather affects my range

over the end of summer, my 12 mile commute was ~220wh/mile without preconditioning and ~200wh/mile if i precondition the battery
last couple of days has been ~270wh/mile without preconditioning (i didn't plug in the car lol)

My current long term average over 5k miles is 3.9m/kWh that's from mid July to now. It dropped from 4 once the summer ended so it'll be interesting to see how it drops now we're getting into proper winter

Is that a round trip ? - last few days the wind reversal from south to north wind has been very marked out on bike/running, usually to the detriment of the home leg.
e: I did a 200mile round E-W Norfolk/northants trip about a month ago in ICE was 50mpg on out trip and 55 on return

I don't know ask a fisheremen ?
but without the thermal inefficiency/encumberance of ICE, ev consumption is a lot more impacted by wind speed/direction, we'll see what aero the 00 has.

Yeah i'm starting to notice efficiency drop, 5c leaving home this morning.

got 4.4m/kwh on the way into the office today, used 17% of the battery, was only using 11-12% in the summer whilst getting 5.5~

But that was preheating the car before i left, heater on, heated seats and cruise still set to 70, i still think that's pretty good going.

This was the first two years of my Polestar - the wavy line as you go through winter and summer becomes obvious when you make a graph out of it :D

In summer on my 66 mile commute I was getting 3.5-3.8 mi/kWh. Now I'm getting around 2.7 - 2.9 mi/kWh with temps below 4C in my Elroq 60, that's even with pre heating the car on AC in the morning. AC on at 22C no heated seats/wheel.

What % would a heat pump give roughly at these lower temps? 10% ish? Not that it's an issue, just curious.

Ah winter here. Cue loads of posts about range dropping and peoples daily routine heating the car. Pre heating is like pre drilling a hole

My average on the past 800 miles seems to be 34.8kw/100 miles so 2.87 miles/kWh?

Winter definitely has taken a big hit on it. When I first had the vehicle in September I would be sub 30kwh/100 miles.

Did a pre-condition off battery and it took 2% off the battery.

Almost like we're having a general discussion about something that we notice with our EVs.

Its also harder to dry clothes in this weather. I guess 5 years in and on intelligent drive i simoly dont car anymore; about a year ago i switched the left hand part of my IPACE instrument cluster from the trip summary with miles, efficiency etc to media so now i dont see it.
Ignorance is bliss as they say.
