EV general discussion

It'll leave him no worse off than public charging at his local rapid hub, other than having to do a couple of short top ups per week instead of sticking it on the drive for a 100% charge once a week. So down in time, not money.

As for unique, I'd bet there are loads of people who could do it if they wanted/needed to, just thinking outside the box really.
I guess, like most, I'm 26 years deep into a motoring model that has my car a stones throw from my house. Parking elsewhere and walking sounds like a massive inconvenience but I guess making that trip twice a week isn't too bad.

IOG sounds like a poor idea if only charging once a week though. 6 days of bumped up cost and one day of non optimised reduced rates (I doubt she will be blasting through the weeks washing while the car is charging) means you would have to be very committed to that salary sacrifice tax saving.

Not necessarily.

Before I got my solar I was saving money on my household electricity bill (excluding EV charging) on IOG by just putting the dishwasher and about half the washing machine runs on overnight. The savings were tiny but it certainly didn’t cost any more.

Edit: If you use about 12kwh per day, you only need to use 1kwh over that 6 hour period to break even. Base load + dishwasher more than covers that.

Edit2: unless you really need to charge during the day, you’d be better off on IOG than something like OVO anytime at 14p/kwh almost regardless.

I charge our ev much less than once a week, sometimes twice a month sometimes not at all, but our monthly bill is cheaper, with the ev, than it was before with Octopus.
You are correct in that a user of IOG can save by putting the dishwasher/washing machines on a timer so they operate between 23:30-05:30 thus using the £0.07 rate.
The only other main appliance that uses electricity is either the microwave, the electric range master, or my PC when gaming :D, as our heating is by oil and on 24/7.

I'd have to get more actual data from him, the conversation only came around as he rocked up in a BYD Sealion thingy, and I asked if he'd tried the Seal, and that is how we ended up discussing the ways and means of making an EV work for you if you don't have easy close by parking (he doesn't but charges at work).

As for the Go/IOG adding ~80-100kWh per week at 7-9p will easily offset a low single person user household. Have another meeting in Jan I'll ask more then, as it is an interesting question, although I get a feeling he is going to want to discuss the whats, whys and wherefores of solar power but we ran out of time, pfft who needs to discuss work anyway!

I would happily let any of my neighbours in our cul-de-sac use my charger as long as they paid for the electricity because it's only plugged in a couple of times a week for our useage and sat idle the remainder of the time.

Could a neighbour allow iog access if they made the charger available to others - I guess not since car needs to be registered at their address, unlike Go.

Norway top-tier ev adopter hasn't got a silver bullet for the inequality of electricity pricing and adoption of ev's between those with and without home charging,
so aren't really waiting for something in uk

---------

this uk garage have eye opening videos on ev repair process & costs - good pr.

You can link IOG to the charger rahter than the car and in that scenario Octopus has no clue what is plugged in. Likewise, its always cheap fro 6 hours overnight if you only have a compatible car rather than a compatible charger. There is still plenty of scope to rent out some cheap charging to someone.

Just had my company car lease order accepted for the BMW iX3

M Sport Pro Technology Pack [HUD and Harman Kardon Sound system]
Ocean Wave Blue
Parking Assistant Plus (360° cameras)
Panoramic Glass Sunroof with Climate comfort glass
Heated Steering Wheel
Sun Protection Glass for rear and boot

Was intending to get the M Sport model, but realised last minute that you then need to spec these additionally on top of that:

BMW Iconic Glow (Which gives it Matrix LED functionality)
M Steering Wheel (Don't like the standard one)
Seats with 8 Way adjustability and massage function

Whereas they are standard on the Pro (sort of, the Pro gets M Sports seats).

So when added to an M Sport version, it actually put the monthly price above the Pro model.

No vented front seats available on the MY26, which is a shame having gotten used to having them on my GV70 but that's probably the only thing I'll miss.

Been told end of March - April 2026 for delivery.

Review embargo ends Thursday I think, but rumours are it's a really great car to drive.

I've looked at these on our work scheme but pricing is still mad, £1100 before tax a month for the M Sport Pro without options (although to be fair it's exactly the same ballpark as a Q6 e tron for example)

It's under £900 a month for me with 50% VAT back.

It it a lot, especially when you can get a top spec BYD Sealion 7 for half that price at the moment, but I've driven that and it was baaaaad.

no date yest for the ix3 40/35 which may have similar pros&cons like, for i4

new vag drive train app350 on fwd meb+ chassis, with electronic diff, hairpin&co should bring similar efficiency like the 550

I'm sure it'll be a lovely car but how does anybody put up with wading through all the spec to figure out what you actually want with all the different trim levels and packs?

It sounds exhausting :(

It was quite easy on the BMW configurator to be honest, but the matrix LEDs are hidden behind the "Iconic glow" BS and the only reason I realised, is that I saw a post on a BMW forum somewhere which was bringing people's attention to it.

People in work have been very confused.

Basically the lease company are offering the same MSport50 + Tech Pack Plus you mention but the options are confusing, the lease company think the pan roof is included, not optional.. and even questioning the sun protection/heated steering wheel for the leases cars, but everyone is going by the UK Configurator which has pretty much everything as an option..

Lovely EV though, the 113kwh battery is a bit OTT, but if thats what it takes to get the 501 mile range, so be it!

AP290 is for the FWD, AP350 replaces 310 on RWD Entry.

You need to pay more attention if you are going to link to videos and your text summarys are not correct.

I see some of the Renault range has been upgraded from the smaller EV grant to the larger one. If only i'd waited a few more weeks to order it.....meh, by the time i'd waited and paid any order penalty it probably doesn't make too much difference anyway.

Updated IOG sounds rubbish that you only get up to 6 hours smart charging in 24 hours. I’m reading it as if you get 6 hours worth of slots in the day you’d be charged full price even in the off peak period for car charging

I've not had the email but I've seen it posted on Reddit. It's as clear as mud as usual from octopus. You could read it either as that or as you can get up to 12 hours of off peak a day depending on how the slots land.

The fair usage policy always said 6 hours of smart charging iirc so nothing has actually changed, sounds like they might just be starting to enforce it.
