EV general discussion

I've not had the email but I've seen it posted on Reddit. It's as clear as mud as usual from octopus. You could read it either as that or as you can get up to 12 hours of off peak a day depending on how the slots land.

The fair usage policy always said 6 hours of smart charging iirc so nothing has actually changed, sounds like they might just be starting to

I’ve not had the email either but just seen it pop up in a few places.

It would be better if they just gave you 6 hours and the option to tell it not to go over that rather than me having to worry about not going over it.

It won’t affect me mostly apart from Friday and over the weekend where me and the wife could do with a large charge… might have to plan charging more

I haven't had anything from them either. They are not as competitive as they used to be, my peak rate with IOG is 32.17p per kWh since I came back to them last month. Before I left them in February it was 26.4p per kWh. Some of the other companies won't even reveal their EV tariff rates until you join them on their standard tariff so it's not as if anybody can compare all rates.

Have you gone onto the fixed IOG Tariff? Variable its cheaper than that.

Yeah the people bragging about limiting their charging speed so their car takes 18 hours to charge are probably the few actually getting the emails... I certainly haven't had anything through
I love the idea the Kraken can optimise charging against grid demands etc yet people think it cant highlight the abusers of the t&cs.

When the kraken becomes the Karen  Cry me a river.

27.8p here for me and 7p off peak on IOG. 57.2p standing charge.

whilst they have dialed down the hideous front end a bit it's still ugly (in my subjective opinion) . nothing like as nice as the BMWs of a decade ago imo.
impressive vehicle however and may be perfect for my aging parents who have a 200mile cross country trek to visit me if the car can drive itself most of the way

Haven't yet admired an ix3 on the bus-laned streets of cambridge , dealer is way out in the bad lands.

Octopus Kraken was was already awoke/self-aware to spot gamers - if you subscribe to detailed live data, like I do, they can see the signature consumption of differerent device;
maybe not if you have solar/batteries, but otherwise met with a software company 10 years ago that were doing power profiling, probably all enhanced by AI now.

These Gen2 BMW EV's moving the sector forward - improved efficiency, competitive pricing and improved tech.

Other Euro car makers need to step it up !

I've only been on IOG for a week and got the email from Octopus yesterday so they can't be targeted emails.

The new terms seem fairly clear - 6 hours overnight on the reduced rate, and up to an additional 6 hours cheap rate per 24 hours.

From the email:

Here's the nuts and bolts:

Intelligent Octopus Go customers will still receive 6 hours of off-peak electricity for your whole home every night

You'll also receive up to 6 hours of discounted smart charging every 24 hours – these may be during the 6 hours of off-peak, outside those times, or a mix of both

Regardless of when the 6 hours of smart charging are scheduled, the electricity for your whole home will also be at the discounted rates

If we need to schedule more than 6 hours to reach your target charge, only the first 6 hours of charging will be at the discounted rate – extra half-hours will be charged at your Boost rate

Just had my company car lease order accepted for the BMW iX3

M Sport Pro Technology Pack [HUD and Harman Kardon Sound system]
Ocean Wave Blue
Parking Assistant Plus (360° cameras)
Panoramic Glass Sunroof with Climate comfort glass
Heated Steering Wheel
Sun Protection Glass for rear and boot

Was intending to get the M Sport model, but realised last minute that you then need to spec these additionally on top of that:

BMW Iconic Glow (Which gives it Matrix LED functionality)
M Steering Wheel (Don't like the standard one)
Seats with 8 Way adjustability and massage function

Whereas they are standard on the Pro (sort of, the Pro gets M Sports seats).

So when added to an M Sport version, it actually put the monthly price above the Pro model.

No vented front seats available on the MY26, which is a shame having gotten used to having them on my GV70 but that's probably the only thing I'll miss.

Been told end of March - April 2026 for delivery.

Review embargo ends Thursday I think, but rumours are it's a really great car to drive.
Nice :)
Pretty much where I am currently... M-Sport Pro in Polarised Grey, with the same options..... unless Polestar (3/4) or the Chinese (Zeekr 7X) can do something very good on their pricing.

I've been on IOG for over 2 years and haven't got the e-mail yet.

Same here, I fully expect to be booted off it at some point though, as I have a dumb charger and my car is no longer supported (seems I was lucky enough to sign up within a 2-3 week window where Kia actually worked with it!)

The way I read that email, you're still guaranteed the cheap 6 hours overnight (23:30-05:30) and potentially an additional 6 hours outside of those times.

I see some of the Renault range has been upgraded from the smaller EV grant to the larger one. If only i'd waited a few more weeks to order it.....meh, by the time i'd waited and paid any order penalty it probably doesn't make too much difference anyway.

Its interesting as as soon as they've had that they've jacked the price up by £500 and they've removed the £500 deposite contribution to the finance and bumped up the rate froms something like 2.7% to 4.9%

Sooooo yeah...

It's almost as if everyone with eyes saw this kind of thing coming a mile off, the manufactures use it as an excuse to pretend to give a discount and just pocket a load more cash for themselves..

quite.

I fully expect any EVs which were strategically priced just below the £40k luxury VED threshold to also mysteriously creep up for "reasons", especially if they're also eligible for the grant.

interesting.. it is fair enough and from a practical POV it wont change that much (12hrs charging on 7kwh charger is gonna be able to fill 90% of home vehicles from as good as empty).

but it stops people using a granny charger or limiting their charging rate to get almost 24/7 7p per kwh.

edge case wise, multiple EV families and perhaps taxi drivers may feel it, however i think octopus offer specialist products for incredibly heavy EV charging energy users.
