When you guys use preheat and the car is very icy do you just set it to heat the cabin up or do you set it to the 'demist windscreen' option so it points the air right at the screen?

I'm slightly worried about cracking the screen by directing the hot are at it when its very frozen up vs just heating the cabin up and letting it thaw out slowly?

The app isn't that clever that I can choose... but I think it does use the windscreen vents judging by the way the windscreen clears from the bottom upwards

edit: and I'd really not worry about it, hot air isn't going to change the temperature of the glass windscreen so much that it could crack.

I had a test drive with the Sealion 7 today, very comfortable and packed with gadgets. Being offered £325/m , approx. 3 k down, 8k mileage over 2 years for the "Comfort" model. The top range "Excellence" comes with 20 inch wheels, HUD and AWD with larger battery but that's another +£180 on top. Before I order it, I'm waiting for EON to setup the smart meter and the local company to fit a hypervolt .

Unless it's already got a decent chip/start of a crack in it, in which case your days were numbered anyway.

I had mine set to warm up for 0400 this morning (even though I looked out the window at that time and decided today was a WFH day :D) and it had completely cleared the windscreen of a good inch and a half of snow compared to my wife's car next to it. I think I lost 1% battery which is a small price to pay to be able to walk straight into a warm cleared car.

You say that but I’ve seen loads of cracked screens from pre heating.

That said, they are almost all weakened in some way by a stone chip (could be pretty small mind) etc.

Yeah i guess the issue is you may have a tiny defect in the screen you didn't know about and then it can crack from there.

My app lets me choose to just do the cabin or to specifically do the rear window and front demist so was just curious what others do if they had the option.

I used to laugh at the idea of a heated steering wheel but these days I wouldn't say no, still not a fan of heated seats though just don't like heat being delivered that way.

The one problem I've found with heated seats is when you unwittingly let out a particular pungent fart - the stench of baked farts should not be underestimated.

Apparently it's not funny when you switch on the ventilated seats shortly after though .

It's just blokes arguing on the internet over straw men

Clearly both pre heat and heated windscreens are useful but... it's the internet

Discussing features is not arguing. The question is why are you reading something you don't have to read, is it for the faux outrage....

It's not really something you need to plan? Push the button on the app/key fob while you're putting your shoes on and grabbing your jacket/phone/etc. Unless there's 2 inches of snow on the windscreen, then those few minutes should be enough to clear it

Because not all fobs have the option. In the same way not all have heated windscreen and/or heated wheel.

Not all have a free app. Also because I've a problem with an expensive subscription for a feature on a car.

Whats next... indicator stalks that you play extra for....

How is pre heating different from heating up the car when you're in it.

It blasts the front screen with the hottest possible air it can produce as fast as it can produce it.

It doesn’t do that when you are sat in it unless you tell it to.

That’s how it works in my car anyway.

That's not great... my Buzz is averaging 2.1 at the minute but 1.5 is some going haha

It’s a 2021 model and is fairly pants anyway - with two adults, a toddler, roof box and luggage it averaged 2.2 on a 400 mile round trip to Preston over Xmas. It’s rubbish, but I’d pick an inefficient Mercedes over an efficient other brand any day.

To be fair, there is outrage, but from one person and one person only.
The rest of us seem to be pretty chill.

I was roasting this morning, hence my very drained battery! :D
